    Identifying live cables

I know......Totally agree!! Shouldn't be relying on a volt stick for it. If he is getting a spark in anyway....why can't they do it....

Understanding the new regulation regarding Main Bonding.

I don't think it is so hard to determine. Parallel paths via cpc's will be a low impedance back to MET. You therefore won't know if it was extraneous as you now can't sensibly prove it anymore without disconnecting too much stuff. If pipework it is at earth potential via a cpc even though it...

    Identifying live cables

Volt pens are good as an indicator, but won't work through the sheath of many cables. What cables is it? You mention 2" thick......SWA I'd imagine, a non contact volt stick won't pick that up.

Understanding the new regulation regarding Main Bonding.

Loving Extraneousness!! That should definitely be a word lol

    Identifying live cables

Try a "volt pen" on SWA, MICC or FP.......

What’s the going rates for the below instalation

Why are you sizing cable for 50A capacity?? Ib for distribution circuit .....approx 22A 1. 20A for socket outlets as could be fully loaded so base on MCB, 2. Say.......2A for lighting Protective device only needs to be equal or greater than design current .... 16mm for a 22A Ib 35M...

EICR Question - Lots of confusion out there ....

Additional protection would also be required for changes to existing circuits.

2 core for 4 inch fan wiring

I thought that too, but was unsure form description if tight in corner on the ceiling or, tight in corner upto the ceiling.

EICR Question - Lots of confusion out there ....

Get the EICR done and then see. It is a report from which you can then make an informed decision about your installation. They shouldn't be recommending board changes at this stage.

    Basic qualification help required.

Would be worth speaking to trading standards if you are selling them. As what you make is on a plug top, you won't need to do any electricians quals. I would of thought the most relevant qualification would be the C&G 2377 PAT as you can test and certify them as safe. If you have that and you...

    options for workshop supply

As you haven't provided a design current it is easier to use In. This also means you are covered for volt drop right up to the point of overload of the distribution circuit. 32A you could go 10mm, if you go 16mm, you can do 50A. Using In instead of Ib and youve got a VD just under 5% for both...

    Pros...cons...preferences..

Yeah, 0.1s is as low as BS7671 goes for your calcs, any Zs =/< max Zs for that 60898 would achieve that (as needs at least that fault current). As Zs drops, fault current increases and disconnection will get quicker. Would require manufacturer's data if you needed to go lower than 0.1s to...

A 'drop everything and get here quickly' call

That's rather worrying to hear but not at all surprised lol

    Short circuit disconnection times

The I2t for 1.0mm is 13225 A2s. The Beama guide for 60898 Class 3 limiting states <35000 A2s for In <16A. I know in reality they are lower but manufacturers data would needed to confirm to confirm the energy let through of device. I have found some which are below this for their B6 devices.

    Domestic installation advice

Hi Mark Yes, the correct procedure is to contact the supplier and request they install an isolator switch. You can then isolate and connect your new tails to the load side of their switch.

    Short circuit disconnection times

I like these sort of threads :) Maybe my interpretation of BS EN 61439-3 is wrong......I see it that any device or factory wiring within the enclosure is covered for 16kA Breaking Capacity. I don't see that it would cover for thermal constraints of outgoing wiring from circuit breakers. This...

    Pricing larger new build

Yeah, I remember reading about that. Fairly recent amendment I believe. You can't use a T&E with an unsheathed or reduced sized cpc in Ireland. Cpc has to be same size as live conductors and be insulated.

    Short circuit disconnection times

Sorry, my mistake,as you say it should be Sq rt I2t. I should not have squared t. In my defence......It was late, and had had a couple of beers lol Yes, to comply with 1mm you would need a Zn of at least 0.22. Any lower would exceed 1150A which would exceed 1mm by adiabatic. Uo x Cmax / 1150...
