As some above, I charge by the quarter hour (or part), minimum of one hour on site. Fixed price per hour, but I charge travel at the same rate on top, even if it's only a short distance. It means that, in effect, the first hour gets more expensive the further away the job is.

OK, so a BS 1362 fuse won't provide close overload protection. Do you think that domestic power strips, supplied via a 13A fused plug, should be banned?

Quite agree. Your neighbour is due an explanation from the original electrician as to why the generator is so grossly over specified. Was there an allowance for some future large item of equipment?
Well I have a Megger MIT401 IR/continuity meter, so if someone's desperate enough for my services I'll just have to work with that. Just no RCD or loop testing.
