    Why cover earth wire?

I was beginning to think that the L and N cores should be wrapped in foil and hence protect from cable damage. This would act as a significant cross sectional area for a CPC. If the main purpose is to provide an earth to the equipment, then putting on yellow /green cladding doesn’t add anything...

    Why cover earth wire?

Let’s take a case where the insulation of the live conductor is damaged. If the CPC is insulated then no action occurs. Is it better to do the best one can by having a bare CPC which would in some cases cause the protection to fail and continue to do so until the fault is fixed. More...

Sorry my previous entry was not very clear . when I take continuity test , this is the result. from incoming earth connector to both sides of stem to lampholder - no continuity. From other lampholder stem to both sides of lampholder stem - no continuity. From stem of lampholder between sides...

    Why cover earth wire?

for T@E cable, we cover the bare earth wire with a sleeve of green / yellow. Why? The basic idea is that if there is a fault then the live wire meets with the earth and covering the wire with insulation potentially stops this action in some cases. Is it not better to have the bare wire to...

    Quality lighting

Yes there was no continuity across the metal from one side to the other. Checked that the ring was tight and wouldn’t tighten any more! Even tried sandpaper round the area?

Extension socket exploded, problem with extension block or main wiring?

I’ve got three different ones installed(both the new Apple and the old apples ( we have 3 iPads and 3 iPhones in the house) all working ok. I agree that checking the wiring causes them to be disconnected which is a bind. The main advantage was the removal of adapters and /or additional sockets

Controlling plug sockets room by room

And the Martindale PL13 Appliance Lock Out £7.50. these lockouts socket or an appliance. This might not be just what your looking for and it’s not high tech. But this is one of the lockout devices available for electricians to make sure that another electrician cannot energise a circuit.

Controlling plug sockets room by room

Cheap: remove the kit rather than the power. If the kit is not removable, then take away the cable if it has a connection. Change the password to the internet . put in a monitor in the room and act when you see the first child

Extension socket exploded, problem with extension block or main wiring?

I replaced socketswith ones that contained a USB charger built in. You have to watch what connection is needed (lightning or USB).it saves a socket! depending on what else is on the extension lead, I fit a surge protection extension which better protects the equipment- though would not have...

    Main fuse protection

I have a 80 amp RCD after the meter fitted by an electrician. Unfortunately the type used does not allow for differentiation from other RCD in the house. my CU is old wylex so at best if one of my house RCDs triggers so does my main RCD but at least I can withdraw the fuses from the CU , reset...

Horstmann Electronic 7 seems to be constantly on!

I think your idea of the new heaters causing the problem should bot be discounted. I suggest that you consider switching one room off (if you can) and see if that leads to a drop in costs ( or turn the temp down a bit for one room)

Horstmann Electronic 7 seems to be constantly on!

BTW: There is a cheap tool available that you may have. It’s a non-contact voltage tester. These bleep when there is electricity ( over 40 volts) flowing in a cable. if you have one then run it over the outside of the cable going to the immersion heater. It should bleep when the immersion...
