Hi All, I've been asked by a friend of mine if they require a fire alarm system within a building they have just purchased.
It is a building with 9 flats within across 4 floors, and was wondering what regulation they need to comply with and if they need a fire alarm system installed or not...
I am yes, 100A main switch im assuming is the maximum loading the whole board could take (although never heard of that tripping) but in this case would never get to that as there is a 63A isolator before it...
Came across this on an install today and wondering if its correct,
Main Fuse was 100A, cables going into a meter then from a meter into a 63A switched fused isolator, Then 16mm Armoured from isolator into fuse board about 15m away.
now i'm confused as to why its 100A Main fuse - 63A isolator...

Hi Guys,
Part of my NICEIC Assessment i have been told to provide my 17th Edition Certificate but As i finished my College in 2010 i have already been taught to 17th Edition Standards why would i need to take 17th edition Test again.
My JIB card also states 17th Edition on the back...
I 100% agree mate, Personally i think you should need your 2391 in order to be part of these schemes. Shocking how people with less qualifications and experience can Sign off notifiable work, They don't:mad: even need to be fully qualified again the "competence" work comes into effect
You are right as only my job only approved 2391 testers can test (fully understand why) but it seems silly how this guy would need to be assessed again if he wanted to be part of the NIC...
As i am not part of any scheme i have been told if i issue a certificate i then have to pay...

Hi Wilko, it is my understanding you do not even need 2391 to be part of these competent schemes, Its something i have just been told (after booking my testing course) then being told if i want to join these schemes i have to be assessed AGAIN (surely showing them my 2391 would of been enough)...
yes doing any course would improve your understanding, but my question is why would you pay & take the 2391-52( i believe it is now) and still be unable to walk into someone's property and issue a certificate that adequate enough? I believe you should be allowed to be Part of these schemes...
Hi Guys,
A debate at work and im slightly confused and thought maybe someone here may shed some light.
What is the point in doing your 2391 Testing course? Apparently to be NIC Registered you do not need to have 2391 Inspection & Testing & You are able to sign work off.
However if you have...
If you are only level 2 you are still a mate really, I personally wouldn't class you as an improver until you was level 3. responsibility is good but you aren't even level 3 yet so you shouldn't be teaching an apprentice anything as you still have so much to learn yourself.
Being chucked in...
That is the course your are looking for mate previously was 2330 or something like that if you do that along with your NVQ you will have your gold card along with doing you AM2
As suggested before city of Westminster in Paddington do run all electrical courses and isn't to far from Acton either, you may also want to try college of north west London they have 2 colleges very close to actin also
