Would you carry out this job??

I went to a similar job years ago where the lid for the ‘board had been broken in half by a previous blunderer. The client didn’t want cost of the board replacement so I asked my wholesaler at the time (CEF) about obtaining a replacement. Which they did. Nearly cost as much as a replacement...

    six inch extractor fan

Crest a hole? I’m sure I meant cut, or maybe even core, a hole. Damn autocarrot!!! I just wondered why, in what I’m assuming to be a domestic job, there needs to be a 6” extractor fan?

    Proposal to ban cash payments?

As a (mostly) domestic sparks who prefers to email invoices and receive BACS payments online it’s unlikely to make any difference to me. The most I’ve ever accepted in cash was +\- £1k and that still went into the bank. Although I begrudge being charged to pay cash in I’m also charged for...

I’m with Telectrix. Get BTB to crest the hole. Why is the requirement for a 6” fan though?

Timeguard rcd socket won’t trip with tester. Help please

I can’t speak for the RCD devices referred to herein but I tend to use Timeguard PIR sensors( for switching lights inside & out) in preference to the doorbell manufacturers models that my wholesalers peddles. Never had any trouble with them.

    Domestic Kitchen Downlights

I rarely use cool white at all, as people seem to prefer the warmer look, un less there is no natural light at all then cool seem to work well. My personal fave are JCC FGLED10s; bright enough to get away with putting fewer fittings in. I’m not a fan of rooms that seem to have more downlight...

Call out to an Overloaded board

Nice job. The newer Easy 9 boards are a little idiosyncratic but they do have a good amount of space to work in.

Test failed due to missing RCD

Surely, if installed in 2003, this CU ought to have had a 30mA RCD for the Socket outlets only if nothing else to conform to 16th Edition? Or is my memory sketchy?

Blimey, never seen anything like this before!

Mmmmmmm..... Nice. It never fails to amaze me that the meter installers would carry out their work without seeming to bat an eyelid in these circumstances.

Flat bits, what do you recommend?

Armeg Wood Beaver & Nail Proof Stubby (and full-size) fluted bits 20, 25 & 32 mm make very short work of joists, sheet materials, pipes etc and the nail-proof are designed to cope with the additional abuse met out by an impact driver. 60v De Walt kit eh? Hmmmmm

    Australian consumer unit....

I’m sure the manufacturer’s instructions on every consumer unit I’ve examined have stated with some certainty that there is only one way to install them correctly. Hence the visual aids below. And no, I didn’t.

Wholesalers who’s the best service and value

FWIW I’m very happy with my local Eddies. Good level of stock, reasonable pricing, fantastic delivery service and most importantly CONSISTENT! I also use a local independent who are always helpful if less competitive and don’t deliver (not usefully enough to me anyway) and Poofix (the name says...
