Electricians and Electrical Work During COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic (Public Weekly Thread)

This been case for me to Andy. Lot of DIY bodgers had to rescue. Bit of a saving grace initially but now really busy. The new regs on landlord EICRs has created a lot of demand in my area I think. As first year I count my blessings things going well as at beginning of lock down come close to...

Clarification on additional sockets on a spur

Can you clarify that for me. Seem to suggest even with one double socket being supplied from another double on a ring could be 52 amps on one leg of the ring?

Clarification on additional sockets on a spur

Thanks radiohead is there any scenarios then you would be comfortable doing what I proposed....2 double sockets off 4mm from ring. 1595185833 It's option dazzler but this job I'm already having to cut hole in plasterboard and another hole in skirting just to get a cable through trying to keep...

Clarification on additional sockets on a spur

Thanks Tel. So if a 4mm is used as initial cable of the ring this is then protected against overheating. If as you said though that socket coming off is at one end of ring is there now a over heating danger to one of these or is it just that because current isn't spread around ring adequately...

Clarification on additional sockets on a spur

Evening all Got a query excuse me if not seeing the simple logic. On reading regs book it states can install one unfused spur off ring in 2.5 but if more sockets required need to first wire through a fused spur. My question is, is this all because of possibility of overloading one leg of the...

Burnt out 6mm on 8.5kw shower

It was about an inch up from termination radiohead. Thing that makes me bit more dubious though is that shower has recently gone in to replace a previous faulty one and that customer reported that shower would seems to alter temperature quite extremely even when using same temp setting on dial...

Dimmer switches for 24v LED tape lights

Hi All Am on a job tomorrow and while there customer wants me to investigate newly installed 24v LED tape lights that keep flashing on and off. These are on a wall mounted dimmer. If tape lights and transformers are both dimmable which apparently they are this suggests problem is with the...

    EICR on commercial unit

I didn't code it Westward but added it as a comment and recommendation. The way I see it is that if plastic boards have been found to not provide great protection in event of fire starting within them, then in commercial this must surely still be applicable. There maybe less likelihood of loss...
