Great info thanks!
We tried George Clarke but he wasn't interested. It's listed as well which makes it more awkward. We're going to project manage ourselves, I'm planning on doing the run of the mill electrics but will probably need to get someone in for the fancy stuff (audio and automation)...
I can't get the hang of the quote thing. Thanks handysparks, why would you use PIR in cupboards instead of door switches? Also would it be possible to overide the PIR when I've got the cinema in operation? Wouldn't want the lights coming on every time someone goes to the loo.
I thought about motorised blinds, I think they would be a good idea as the windows are very high and we'd have to go up onto the gallery to operate them. Heating controls would also be good. I don't even know what water harvesting is??
I've seen those hidden speakers and that's the kind of thing I was thinking of. Are they good? I'm conscious of being sold on the idea of something that's turns out to be not all its cracked up to be. I want to do it once and for all.
I'll have a look at those Crestron tablets, thanks!
We have an architect so we'll have a good idea where to start. The roof needs to be replaced as it's fibrous, a structural engineer will tell us if we need to replace trusses etc. We're starting with the expectation that we need to replace all of it so anything else is a bonus. We can get floor...
So my partner and I have possibly lost our minds and bought and old chapel which, all being well, we'll start to convert in 2 or 3 months. I want it to be all singing and dancing in terms of lighting/audio/etc but I also want it to be unobtrusive. I don't have any experience working in high...
Hi Dan
I just had a v quick read of your electrician section on the home page and noted at least two typos..:flushed:
Yes I am the grammar police :)
But a big welcome to the forum!
Thankfully this one is under my belt but thought I'd better check ready for the 18th! Is it the full exam we'll have to do or just a top up?
In terms of tips - like others have said, use the index. The exam generally works its way through the book so the first few questions are found in...
What's the official line on highlighting and post it notes? And what about writing in the books? I was told the first two were ok but the latter is a no-no.
Thanks, that's very informative. I have a chapel to covert after this and I want to pay great attention to the thermal/insulation aspects as it's a big (and currently cold and damp) space.
N.B. It's mine by the way - I'm not winging it on someone else's property!

What do you mean by this PEG? I'm in the middle of building an extension, first time I've done this kind of building work so it's all new to me.
Thanks anyway Risteard! I did put it in ready to be connected to the shaver socket but then it got taken out as the tiler forgot to run it up the wall to the shaver point! As others had said it wasn't really necessary I didn't put up a fight.
Hi Pat, I was wondering which forums you consider to be more helpful as you mention in your post? I sometimes find a similar response with trainees/newly qualified. Some members are extremely helpful but others not (although they still feel the need to respond) and I don't like asking if I think...
