Hi guys, been doing more testing and reporting on small blocks of flats and came across this scenario.
Block is PME with a small intake at the bottom containing most of the meters. The sub-mains/laterals then run through pvc conduit to the ccus in the flats where there is an Henly block making...
I'm not talking about the times you can legally do it I'm talking about the day to day stuff in the real world where you do it to change a ccu. It happens 100s of times a day. I doubt there will be an increase in the zero amount of prosecutions there are now with the increased deregulation.
Been personally pulling main fuses and cutting seals for over 30 years. Now my company pulls and cut 100s per year. Never had so much as hint of a problem from the DNO.......I think the subbing out of meter reading probably makes it even less likely of a prosecution or a fine!
You did the right thing, with the right intentions of saving life and property. The network guy was just doing what all network guys seem to do, overstating there own importance. You are probably more qualified than him anyway............And as for some of the more nervous members on the forum...
Phil I'm afraid your tutor is mistaken. If you change the ccu you must issue an EIC...... Remember "those that can, do. And those that can't, teach":D
And Risteards opinion that it only covers the ccu is also mistaken. I've said before on another thread once you have disconnected the final...
I agree with all the above except i think the Buckle clips point towards it being either a Rubber twin cable or an old PVC flat twin.
As said if the rest of the electrics are like this you might need a rewire. Get your local sbaarks to have a look.;)
Get yourself BAFE accreditation

Do the full 3 day course, a sparks with 30 years experience will find it a doddle..... I did :D
Then you will know all about...
Your absolutely right Pete......back on topic, in my opinion it's best to be a good all rounder but as with all things in life you don't always get a say in where you end up.
Lol..... so you went from not knowing about him in one post to being an expert in the next! Very good :joycat::joycat:
Its not a tattoo down my back! It's just a quote I like when people talk about being specialist, especially in the field of Fire Alarms and IT.
I like this quote about being a specialist.......
"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone...
If your unsure just agree a day-rate with your customer. Tell him you can't be sure how long some of the jobs will take so its best for both parties if you charge just for your time. Your neck of the wood about £180 a day. If you have to get any gear put 20% on top to cover your time getting it.
