    Digging out for aback box...

Crikey, doesn't look like and old brick to me !!! Should come to my place, it's relatively young at about 250 yr's old and in the walls there are river rocks as big as your head in places...now those you really would have trouble sinking a back box into..you can bearly drill them ...lol

No power to section of ring main.

First on the list is to advise customer that before you arrive on your planned visit, is to make sure the CU is full accessible so you can carry out safe testing. Thats just common sense :-)

    Lighting circuit issue

Definite a mystery that one. Inside trunking but with paint mark on it. I would hate to think that a previous installer might have used it in a partially damaged condition, but thinking that as it was in trunking it would be OK and not a hazard. But over time the PVC has embrittled and...

    Lighting circuit issue

Nice find, what was the location in the house where that section of cable came from ?? over joist in loft, under sofit to the outside light ?? It's interesting because it looks like a quite well defined area of damage but can't tell from the photo if there are any nibble marks.

    Which is the Wago?

Did they have any CE markings on the packaging or instructions. Certainly doesn't look like any markings on the product. I think I would be tempted to send samples to trading standards and one of the testing houses. If they were marketed as Wago's and not wago equivilant or similar then there is...

'Click and flow' click connector block. Wiring a floor lamp. Female / male socket

It's more a case of understanding what they mean when describing male/female and which is socket. What is confusing you is that the plug has shrouds over the pins which you are now viewing as a socket. If you look from the point of view that the socket is the female part that has electrical...

    Switching for Biomass

I would expect this system also boiler feeding buffer tank in feeding to house heat exchangers 24/7 regardless of property demand. Each property then drawing as required from heat exchangers on demand from house heating controls.

Light Switch Advice - Help Needed

Did you happen to buy that switch from eBay. Appears to be 120v and US and Canada certifications ? And 'fire nuts' included in the kit.

    When was this in manufacture?

Have you subjected any sections to a good IR session, be interesting to know how it performs after all this time. My guess is that it stands up well, looking at the condition in the photos.

    Boiler in bathroom?

I think boilers have come on a bit since you last looked... lol Room sealed balanced flue being the majority these days to avoid ventilation holes knocked in the walls. So long as the installation enviroment complies with MI's minimum requirement, your good to go.

    RCD dates

OK not an expert on this so just an opinion and could be totally wrong so this is not a recommendation by any means, but... If the original installer deemed that the sockets would not be used for outside connection then surely the installation complied at that time (based on the requirement of...

Did you keep the cable you removed to test as a matter of interest?????

    Eicr

Thanks for the confirmation DS, apologies I had missed your referenced post number. I thought it was quite clear what the requirement was but doubted myself when certain others seemed to having difficulty. Regards Martin.

    Eicr

I'm not an electrician but do read the forum with interest. Would i be right in thinking that a correct example of an installation being in breach of the above would be a supposed rfc that was actually installed with one end of the circuit in one ocpd and the other closing end installed in a...

    'powdering' of alternator belts...

Although you have the right tension is the belt sitting correctly in the pulleys. I.e. needs to be sitting up in the Vee. If it's anywhere close to sitting at the base then the pulleys themselves are worn and will result in slipping, excessive heat and premature belt wear.

Condensation on a bathroom extractor fan

So basically in all that you are agreeing that in a domestic situation, where air won't be dry and where it won't be still you are better off with an expanded foam insulation or glass fibre because it is those parts that prevent the air from moving around, hence providing the insulation factor...
