    13a S/O on 10a Circuit (Imposter Syndrome)

I'm having a terrible bout of imposter syndrome here - I can't find anything electrically wrong with my intention - but it feels a bit off. Commercial (School), small annexxe with no socket outlets (this isn't unusual - I've seen ample amounts of both poor planning in schools and plenty of...

Through crimp on solid core wire... what do we reckon

A very valid point, which blinded by the types of cables i encounter, I'd failed to recognise. I have certain views on that whole MF thing which are a little off topic for this post. But I'm short the whole thing concerns me. I see many well trained electricians installing MF Joints - but if...

Through crimp on solid core wire... what do we reckon

What I'll never understand, is with so much ambiguity, why on earth they're one of very few approved MF connections. Honestly, I'd rather see a bakelite screw terminal junction box under the floorboards than a through crimp.

Good Old Delroy, he gets all the best Jobs :)

As an aside, this is the reason i don't instantly berate DIYers, short courses or anything like that. You get corner cutters and bodgers everywhere. I'll always remember going to a house wired in the 60's by an old boy with no qualifications, just a good base knowledge and plenty of Readers...

Good Old Delroy, he gets all the best Jobs :)

Didn't he give a 16mm main earth a haircut to fit it in a consumer unit MET? I'm not a fan. Clickbaity titles and lots of running commentary criticising others, whilst seemingly being a bit ropey on some things himself. None of us are perfect but if you're going for the celebrity route you...

Is Part Pee fit for purpose / who is policing this scam ???

Was just going to make this point. Solicitors want the deal to go through so they get paid. Estate agents want the deal to go through so they get paid. Sellers want the sale to go through so they get paid. Buyers want the sale to go through so they can get their house - moneys the driver, noone...

Is Part Pee fit for purpose / who is policing this scam ???

I've always felt its a bucket with holes filling more buckets with holes (although I'm prepared to stand corrected as i don't have anything to do with domestic, so this is just my uneducated musings) Part P includes notification of new circuits right? When is a new circuit not a new circuit...

    411.3. 3

Afternoon. Apologies if this has already been discussed at length - I haven't lurked for a good few months due to some personal issues. Just wanted to throw this one out there and see what the consensus is. I may just be having a daft moment and missing the obvious. Existing sodium bulkheads...

    Fixed Appliance RCD Protection

The shield has no connection at either end to earth so I'd always deduce it's not an earthed outer shield

    Fixed Appliance RCD Protection

Thanks all. Yes not domestic, FP200 above suspended ceiling. Will review instructions on arrival - it's a violently expensive thing made in England so fingers crossed with the instructions !

    Fixed Appliance RCD Protection

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear - I didn't mention anything about what I've done post finding this, as I felt the post made it incredibly obvious I'm actually qualified, competent and employed to do this job - as well as my previous contributions to the forum! I mean if you get...

    Fixed Appliance RCD Protection

Afternoon - despite a recent 18th edition pass (all but one right!) I'm having a bit of a moment whilst planning some upcoming works at our site. In reality I should wait, go home, refer to the big book and go from there. But it's playing on my mind and I can be a bit impatient. Also, I guess...

    Regulation of industry

Where do you draw the line with "competent"? There's many different routes to the trade and updates / qualifications that may or may not be relevant I'd say it's a hard line to draw. I work with a chap who did his apprenticeship about 50 years ago. His most recent qualification is 17th - but...

Is pvc pvc T&E soon to be written off ?

100% the old 'white t&e' was not LSOH. I've seen discussions elsewhere and noone seems to know why two variants were produced, but distribution does appear to be regional. Here in the Midlands you could get grey at one shop, walk into another and it was white. The only trend I noticed was the...

Anyone Know How Old This Is..?

As a side note, interesting to see hemp covered VIR singles in galv fed from the MEM box. The IET seem to think this was phased out by the mid/late 50's, but we have plenty still in service here installed 1964 - same type of install - except someone has fitted newer Schneider Iso boxes with...

Anyone Know How Old This Is..?

I'm desperately after one of those rocker switches with the jewel light in it if that ends up going spare. Beer tokens available.
