    Switching maintained emg lights

Hi Lucky, If you want normal and emg lights switched from the same sensor you have a couple of options: 1 - Put them all on one circuit, i.e. supply the sensor, emg lights, normal lights, and test setup from one MCB/RCBO. 2 - Put your standard and emg lights on two different circuits. Have your...

Could electrolysis be an energy storage medium for our next energy future?

Oh, God, he's back. OK. let's take this in order since you've managed to keep the crazy under control at least in your opening post. Maybe, currently it's not really efficient at large scales for energy storage scenarios. Understand that electrolysis is not an energy storage technique in...

Circuits for Motors- how to in the UK?

For a single motor supply circuit here in Australia I would size the overload protection to the FLC from the motor nameplate. (There are a couple of regs around which motors do and don't need overload protection). Then the circuit protection would be the next size up from there i.e. a 7.6A FLC...

    Fluke T5-1000 or T6?

The T6-1000 has a wider ohms range too, it will read to 100k. Workmate of mine got caught out with his T5-600, was reading open circuit on a relay coil that was ~1.8k resistance.

Hi and thanks for having me. Can I wire an Au plug to this fan?

Yeah definitely wouldn't comply just whacking a plug on the end. Doesn't inspire confidence that the rest of the unit would meet Australian Standards either. If you're in western Sydney I could take a look at it and see if a new plug and lead could be fitted, best I can offer from here.

230v european motorized pencil sharpener in 110v usa outlet bogs down

Care to elaborate on that one? If you can find a 120-240 Tx or a plug adapter for a US 240V outlet I see no reason the motor should care where its power comes from. I would double check that the neutral on the sharpener is not connected to the frame, though it should not be.

    A new energy source-maybe--maybe-not

I'm going to go with option B here. The sheer number of PM/FE ideas that boil down to "Extract energy from working fluid as it moves from a HP to LP reservoir, use {some value less than 100%} of that energy to pump the fluid back to the HP side" suggests some intuitive disconnect with how...

Why are the contactors always closed/energized?

Using contactors to control large frequent switching currents degrades the contacts. I would suspect that 'R1' to 'R6' are solid state relays, which are better for repeated switching of elements.

I'm just worried thenewguy is going to blast 240V through that sensor and kill it

Me? I'm good. Are you actually the OP having a conversation with yourself?

Need Advise!! Help me with this wiring. NPN sensor/Solid State Relay

For future reference OP, Push-Pull output sensors can be used for NPN or PNP style inputs, as long as you can change when the sensor is off/on.

    Unconventional light wiring

The white cable is most likely an SDI (Single core Double Insulated), often used in Australia to carry an extra active conductor. My thoughts on how this setup came to be: 1. TPS bringing N+E from the nearest light on the circuit, active will either be switched with the other light or not...

Do you do jobs for cash, and then not declare it with the taxman? (voters in the poll are private!!!)

There are two kinds of electricians. The ones who do the occasional (or not so occasional) job that HMRC doesn't need to know about, and liars.

OFTEC Self-Certification As an electrician, do you feel you have enough independent competition between certification companies when it comes to renewal time?

I'll just be over here with my government issued electrician's license, the one I have to show documented proof of study and experience to qualify for. :)

    A new energy source-maybe--maybe-not

I humoured your delusions once only. Come up with some serious explanation (with actual mathematics) as to how your proposal would work or be blocked and ignored.

    A new energy source-maybe--maybe-not

I'll try to tackle this with some math, just to amuse myself. I had originally assumed that ft.lb was a unit of power, but a quick google shows that it is actually an energy, with ft.lb/s being the power unit. The buoyant force of each bucket will marginally decrease as it rises, as a function...
