Did you test the old element before replacing it? Have you tested for 230v across the element with the element in place? and have you used a clamp meter to see if it's drawing the correct current? Try switching the stat on and off with the clamp meter on.
On the subject of jigsaws, I used the first lockdown to have a go at my first one. I did it for 3 or 4 hours a night and it took me 4 months. I was quite pleased with that, it said 2 to 3 years on the box.
I do this all the time, did one this very day.
PIR done 2 weeks ago, open live on the kitchen, went back to day, found the fault and repaired it and a couple of C3s he wanted sorting. Just edited the EICR then reissued.
Binbag, Why don't you just take out public liability insurance, buy a book of MWCs from a wholesaler and do the job yourself.
A basic PL policy is not a lot and you can pay monthly so what you charge for this job would probably pay at least the first few months.
Then as you say you are looking...
I doubt both go to the roomstat Strima, what would open the valve. Looks like the cable goes to the heating joint box where one is the return from the roomstat and the other goes to the pump. In fact if this was a straught swap with no messing with the wiring, that has to be the case.
This is all correct Brian. However as it was just a boiler swap I'm guessing no other cables were touched, just the ones in the boiler. If this is true then the four conductors will be live, neutral, heat demand and pump live out.
That shouldn't be too hard to work out, and as he says the pump...
I agree, I'd get in touch and cancel, it can't be much.
You said that you think the extra brown is to the pump, then take it out of the live terminal and put it into the pump live, that will probally sort it.
123 did well to spot that, I couldn't see it, even after he said it was there. I do now.
What I would say is be carefull. The blue has some black tape on it so I doubt that it's a neutral.
My guess, and it's just a guess, it will need to be proved. Is that the extra cable is the switched feed...
You'll have to work through the wiring Edward, trace it and make a drawing. Does the extra cable go to the pump or not? it should be easy to prove one way or another. Does it go to the room stat? if not where is the room stat cable? where's the junction box? You need to find all these things...
There's an even chance of finding a permenmant live at the intermediate, if it's been wired in a traditional 3 plate system, But as you say, a very small chance of finding a neutral.
You say it's direct so it's either one or two 3Kw elements.
The rest is down to you re circuit design.
The MI's say 1.5 ho cable to the elements, from the isolator back to the CU is up to you.
