Dodgy trade pictures for your amusement! - 1 Million Views!

Trunking just behind a gas hob And when it was changed to gas, connections were just cut, the 45A switch was on when I arrived, live conductors millimetres from the metal oven housing. Edit... don’t worry though, this happened before a 2017 satisfactory condition report which didn’t pick it up ?

UK DIYer Newbie - adding additional sockets

I’m not saying it’s right, I’m only questioning him saying it needs removing immediately which I disagree with.

UK DIYer Newbie - adding additional sockets

I know, but saying the cable will be overloaded is incorrect, unless he’s plugging in something that’s not designed for a 13A plug top.

UK DIYer Newbie - adding additional sockets

Why? It’s only feeding a twin socket so maximum it’s going to pull is 26A. Clipped direct it’s rated at 27A

UK DIYer Newbie - adding additional sockets

Ok, if your going to be adding sockets on that circuit, assuming there is no upfront 30mA RCD then they will require additional protection. Probably best getting an electrician in. If it was a more modern board with the correct protection and we could see the over current protection rating I’d...

    Pulling cutout fuses

I will pull them in a domestic house, if absolutely necessary. I have done my ERG39 course with Scottish power, all be it that was for street light cutouts but same risks I would imagine. It’s just a non starter getting someone from the DNO to come and pull a fuse. Luckily most new builds now...

UK Bathroom scenario, what's your opinion.

Mainly copper or plastic pipe in the house? I’d say with a reading of 0.04Ohms it was reading through the meal pipework and back down the main bonding unless you disconnected the clamps?

    Outdoor socket

@westward10 has posted the link. Don’t take the installation seriously whatever you do. Probably one of the worst botches I’ve ever seen in my life. Well worth a watch for a laugh though. Best advice I can give you is pop to a local wholesaler, explain what your trying to do and they will be...

    Lap Downlights

Used them once, just used the click flow 20A inline connectors and a 2c flex to the fitting. They are awful. Funnily enough my go to sow light is the Click Scholmore fitting with a GU10 Lamp. About a tenner all included and you get the click flow connector free in the box with the spotlight pre...

There’s a YouTube video by some bloke called Kieran who shows you how to recess one of the surface sockets. Brilliant watch.

MK consumer units going out of business?

Decent quality like Hager, Schneider EZ9 or evening the cheaper Fusebox all with right handed switches are easy to get in line. The Loadstars and the MKs are a bloody nightmare. BG Boards I come across are right hands and slant like Pisa, but I think that’s just cause mainly the people who fit...

MK consumer units going out of business?

Tightening the breakers always pulls then right. Doesn’t on a star breaker because there push in bus bars and much better fixed. Never seen a fully straight MK board.

They are awful consumer units with the left side main switch so not surprise they have been pulled

Dot Dab Plaster wall - 35mm box? Plasterer at odds with electrician

Exactly this, the walls getting dabbed over so it doesn’t need to be an sorta of neat. SDS on hammer with the chisel bit and shave 10mm off. In red brick it’s only taking a day, absolutely tops and that’s if you have a smoke after each box!

Dot Dab Plaster wall - 35mm box? Plasterer at odds with electrician

He should have sunk them. Never getting a 35mm dab unless it’s insulated board. Don’t accept 25mm back boxes. It will limit you in the future.
