there is a difference between an "engineer" and a fire alarm engineer, usually anybody that works on F/A's is called an engineer.

By the way if you done the 16th after 2001 you only do the short test (30 questions), before 2001 it's 60 .
It's quite easy but you need a few special tools, did you take the pot off ? if not then the other end will probably be the same.
Anyway if you don't know someone with the tools you might be better off stripping it out and replace with t+e.
