A quick google whill show anyone interested how to unhide the two hidden sheets and bypass the passwords. I had my annual assessment for x3 technologies last week. I showed the assessor a solar thermal installation I did to the then current MIS3001 v2.1a in the middle of last year...

    Five days without solar power

For completeness, this is the only 30mA time delayed I have come across: RCDs > Time Delayed > T100-30-2TD - Protek Circuit Protection

    Power One Problems

Relevant to this thread, Power One sent an email to no doubt many this morning saying they had published this: Winter storms trigger low insulation resistance (RISO) issues | Power-One

Hyundai PV Panel Array - RISO test help

On cue, I had an email from power one this morning saying they had published this: Winter storms trigger low insulation resistance (RISO) issues | Power-One

    Five days without solar power

All sentry rcds have 's' at the end of the part number. The only time delayed ones they make are 100 mA from what I can see.

    Five days without solar power

TT does NOT need to be on 30mA rcd. The maximum value depends on Zs. And MK do not make 30mA time delayed as far as I am aware. Have you got a part number?

    Five days without solar power

There is (proteus iirc), but why not follow the manufacturer's instructions instead.

    Five days without solar power

For TT every circuit must be rcd protected. The 100 mA in people's minds is because that was the example in previous editions of the OSG. But any value that meets the conditions in 411.5 is ok. Sensible I think in this circumstance to keep the PV installation completely separate from the...

    Five days without solar power

Agreed, put it on a completely separate rcd of at least 100 mA in its own mini-CU. Your original installer was not wise doing what he did. The installation instructions for the inverter say the rcd should be at least 100 mA and although people mainly get away with 30 mA there is no point you...

Hyundai PV Panel Array - RISO test help

I agree with SolarCity, but to answer your question you are looking for leakage to earth, so I would first test in situ: - Unplug the dodgy string from the inverter. - split the dodgy x8 string into two x4 strings then test between each string and earth. - That will have narrowed it down to x4...

    Power One Problems

The Power One low RISO limit is 1 Mohm which does appear easy to breach if connectors are installed such that they touch a roof and stay wet. A couple of my Power One installations have had to have connectors tied up better to cure low-riso faults on startup. Clean rainwater itself does not...

    PART A building Regs

Discussion by labc here http://www.labc.uk.com/Media/Default/library/Technical%20Outlook%20Articles/OL010912%20Installation%20of%20Microgeneration%20Systems.pdf which gives the explanation and assurance you seek I think

    PART A building Regs

Legislation is here http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/2214/contents/made Look at Schedule 3 Serial 17 for MCS What it means is that if you meet the conditions then for microgeneration work you do not have to submit a building notice or plans. There is another document which makes the...

    PART A building Regs

Who/what was 'the guy you called today'? You do not 'notify Part P' you notify compliance with building regulations, all of them. There is a thread from a couple of years ago I think that cites the legal authority. I'll have a quick look.

    Low RISO fault

Have had a look at the manual for the larger inverters now and it says pretty much the same thing.

    Low RISO fault

With the smaller Power One TL inverters, then once the Riso gets below a figure, from memory somewhere around 1Mohm, then they will not start up. If those figures above are paralleled up then they will fall below the critical figure. The normal reading without wet connectors should be 20 Mohm...

    Low RISO fault

The capacitive coupling causes leakage currents during operation. Riso is measured before operation starts and if too low then the inverter will not start. So I see Gavin's SMA document and raise him this one. http://files.sma.de/dl/7418/Riso-UEN123622.pdf I would still put my money on...

    Low RISO fault

Not sure what that means. Sorry if teaching you to suck eggs.

    Low RISO fault

I'll have a stab. It is likely to be a MC4 cable connector somewhere out on the array which is drooping, staying damp, touching the roof or array framework and has green slime growing on it. You need to measure the insulation resistance to earth of the various strings, not the voltages...
