    Had the same problem with a SB2000HF the other day, Sunny Beam refused to detect the inverter when set to position 1. Tried setting rotary switch C to another setting (A in this case) and it all worked.

    Does anyone know how to calculate the required distance between rows of modules to avoid any shading issues? I may need to mount the panels at less than 30° to avoid the need for planning permission and would rather not use mounts such as the Solion model as these waste valuable roof space...

    I did the PV installer course there last month. Overall very impressed with the course content and the knowledge of the instructor (Mick Neville), I do however agree with dansk that the practical session was too short. I plan to use them again for G59 in the not too distant future.

    Hampshire library membership also gives full online access to the BS website (not for commercial use, reference only) and is free to join if you are lucky enough to live in Hampshire. I suspect all UK libraries have a similar arrangement.

    I agree there should be a method of reporting blatant non-adherence to the REAL code of conduct, I too have seen evidence of this and worry that the industry will be permanently damaged if something is not done soon.

    You would have thought that this is the case Malcolm, the insulation of a cable is tested to xx volts whereas a sheath is designed for mechanical protection only, hence not tested for insulation.

    BiggsSolar, reg 712.412: Protection by the use of Class II or equivalent insulation shall preferably be adopted on the DC side. This includes the cabling, although it is interesting to see the word 'preferably' used.

    Sheath and insulation are two different things, the DC cables are double insulated and unsheathed (or should be).

    The concern over using SWA on the DC side is that it not double insulated, as far as I'm aware the general opinion is to overlook this minor detail.
