    Best RCBO consumer unit

Why would you be unable to obtain spares or replacements?

    Best RCBO consumer unit

I love the SBS boards because the rcbos are double pole single module and they are incredibly neat to install with no earth or neutral fly leads. Also competitively priced (albeit only sold to electricians).

A 'drop everything and get here quickly' call

First thing I did was to check the bonding which was as it should be. Next thing was to check that the pme earth was as it should be. Ze was good so I was pretty sure that the raised potential was on the gas pipe. To be doubly sure I connected my wander lead to the pme terminal and then took a...

A 'drop everything and get here quickly' call

Yes, he had one in his tool bag. Apparantly a couple of weeks earlier they were talking about them and none of his colleagues really knew what it was for and nobody bothered using them

A 'drop everything and get here quickly' call

This video was presented to me by a rather scared meter fitter It was a bit dark in the cupboard so he turned his phone camera on for a bit of light

Drayton Wiser. Cheap, easy to use, expandable, nothing to do with google or british gas either

    How to upload a file

Thanks for the guidance. One further question, the meter fitter took the video on his iphone and gave me a copy when I arrived. If I upload this, will there be anything tagged to the file that can identify him (his employers would take a very dim view)?

    How to upload a file

I want to create a thread around a .mov file taken by a very scared meter fitter. It is 1.23 MB. I don't appear to be able to upload it in it's current format so would appreciate baby steps advice on how to go about this

Help on learning heating systems for domestic properties

Honeywell (MK) do excellent training days touring the country, quite cheap as well. Drayton (Schneider) also do courses but more for their excellent Wiser system and hub. Maybe worth a call to see if they do a 'basics' course.

    overheard conversation re 3phase working

Whilst that reply is quite funny, there are all sorts of options being investigated, this being a part of one of them. If we are having trouble getting new nuclear power stations built even with offering staggering guarantees on resale unit pricing, and gas is a diminishing resource that is...

Getting rid of economy 7 tariff and Smart Meter

WPD standard domestic supply is 15kW. The nearest fuse size to this is 80A (15,000/230). Even if your existing is 100A it is quite possible that this could be swapped for an 80A one if they attend your property. The old type of meters are generally rated at 80 or 100A, no idea re smart? meters

    overheard conversation re 3phase working

3 people were discussing scheme membership and insurance and it sounded like eiher 'domestic installers,' or their insurance, does not cover work on 3 phase installations. Some 6 months ago I was informed that all WPD supplies to new properties are to be 3 phase and this is now what is being...

    Third Party Certification in Wales???

Your last post is saying that if you are unable to self certify and notify, you need to employ the services of a Stroma or Napit member who is registered for 3rd party certification. You should not assume that you can employ someone to undertake an EICR, you need an EIC

interesting electrical fire in Yate nr Bristol

One of the reasons WPD replace 100A cutout fuses with 80A is because in the case of a sustained overload, the fuse carrier will overheat before the fuse blows in some versions of cutout. Obviously with a smaller fuse, this will rupture before the heat build up occur. Without more information...

    Overloaded consumer unit ?

Why not clamp (or get somebody to clamp) your meter live tail so that you can see what the actual demand is when you turn everything on. It is usually significantly less than you expect. You can also get energy monitors quite cheaply which display your energy usage in real time, I came accross...

    Shaver points on lighting circuit

It is quite common for the shaver socket to only operate when the light is on on the over mirror types. Shaver sockets are what they say which is shaver sockets. They are not for toothbrush charging. Suitable ones have a picture of a toothbrush, but there aren't many. MK make one. Most...

Understanding the electricity supply to my house (pole, underground cable, meter box, etc...)

It appears tncs. There doesn't appear to be a pme plate on the pole. The yellow covering is for a stay, sometimes these are in hedges etc and not seen by the operators of the flailing hedge cutting machines and were often accidentally cut. The yellow covering is for increased visibility. The two...

    Electrician Jobs EIC issue................................

Read post 14 and phone Stroma or Napit. Not sure how somebody managed to disagree with it, it is what the system is.
