Dear All
Im quoting on changing a fuse board and the earth bonding to the gas is 6mm. TNCS system 100A main fuse at cutout (sealed so not confirmed)
The flat has concrete ceilings and floors and the bonding cable is deep in the structure of the building. No obvious route to run in a 10mm. I rang...
Hi All,
Does a BSEN61008 RCD fulfill the requirements of 537.1.4?
There is no other means of isolation, the tails come from the meter straight to the single 100A 30mA RCD protecting all circuits via BSEN60898 MCB's in a TT installation.
Did some work for a friend and want to know if i did it right. As in regs compliant. I came off an existing lighting circuit to a sw fused spur. I used a 3A fuse to stop nuisance tripping. All the bends are done by hand and there was previously no conduit so i altered previous work. I sealed the...
Hi,
Went to look at a board change this morning, all seems fine, nothing untoward, only thing was on the downstairs ring the CPC continuity was higher than I would have liked.
r1 = 0.39
rn = 0.41
r2 = 1.44
I was half expecting around 0.75 ish, how far over the expected do you accept without...
Hi guys,
Could anyone help me Please with the following questions? I have an assignment to do which has a question that states, Insulation resistance testing has been carried out on the installation and the following result obtained:
Live to Live = 195 M ohms
Live to earth = 0.75 M ohms...
OK peeps
I have just tested an 185 4 core SWA, and have got readings of 40 Megs on L2 to earth and L3 to earth. Although this is accepatable according to the regs, I feel it is unacceptable as a NEW installation, and indeed there is evidence of water on some of the switchgear, which clearly...
Hi guys
turned up to a residential property today to add a few double socket outlets only to find the fuse box in the area was being fed by a ring main on the main switch. Is this allowed ?
Hi all,im currently an Apprentice and need some advice for a job that my boss is doing.He plans to put a fused spur on a 32a ring circuit to feed a CSU for a couple of sockets in the shed. The cable run is about 45 meters long using SWA (not sure what size).Is this acceptable because this...
Ive followed 2 previous electricians into a property, they have had to cover me whilst my passes are sorted out and so I am doing what they were doing for the time being.
What I am concerned about is this. Theres a kitched ring and on the last double socket of that circuit is another piece of...
Hi
My sisters cu appears to have had the main switch removed to make room for more mcbs. Whoever did this just took it out and placed it on top of the casing. The cu has 2 rcds to the 17th. But is this acceptable to remove main switch??
Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum but have read from it a lot in the past for tips and advice which I've been thankful for.
Anyway just wondering as to whether a 16A mcb obviously RCD protected is acceptable for a radial circuit (upstairs sockets). I know it's not a risk as it would...
ok in the new year thinking of starting up on my own carrying out all aspects of electrical testing work because you dont need to be part p to carry out testing would i need to join one of the mobs niceic etc or would it be acceptable to issue the certificates that your local wholesalers sell...
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would know what the acceptable minimum and maximum on a single/three phase main incoming voltage should be. From what I have gathered you have a tolerance of +10 230V -6. Could you also quote from where it is mentioned in the wiring regs.
Thanks.
got a job to install a new cct. for a cooker. 6mm on a 32A MCB, i thought. went to look at the job to find he's got a hagar (1361 fuses) board with a spare way. it looks as if a hagar MCB will fit in the spare way as it's a standard type busbar. there's no RCD in sight, but as the 6mm is all...
Just got back from a call-out, simple case of cooker taking the RCD out. A twin oven, seems in good working order so after a bit of a faff managed to get a clamp over the cpc at the switch (no idea where the house rod is!) and sure enough the bottom oven is leaking about 10mA when firing. So...
Looked at a job today where the elderly occupants have the old rewirable fusebox tucked away high in a kitchen cupboard where neither of them can reach, or replace the fiddly fuse wire.
They've asked me to price up replacing the CU with a split RCD unit but would also like it lowering so they...
on inspection of the electrical installation of a "refurb" property. 2 up 2 down terrace. .the lighting ccts on the board (2) are protected by a 10A MCb
is this acceptable or sholuld i recommend thayre down graded to 6A? also there are 2 feeds out from each of the two mcbs..effectively making 2...
I sometimes get some work helping a fellow sparky. Last week he asked me to help him on wiring a loft conversion. He is the one responsible for the cert (design, install and testing). I was just the hired help.
He said we are going to take a spur from the ring to a 13A FCU for the sockets and a...
Hello all, just a little help required to settle an argument I've been having for the last two days...firstly I'll say that I'm not fully qualified yet...sitting my am2 next week (why I mention this will become clear later).
The other day I was removing some old light fittings and found that a...
