Ive been looking at Approved document B (Fire safety), cause im not sure if a smoke alarm in recent extension needs to be linked to a additional heat alarm in the existing adjacent kitchen. The new extension is adjacent to the old kitchen and no doors separate the two rooms.

having a bit of a debate as to why aico heat detectors should not be wall mounted, other than aico stating "do not wall mount" i cant think of a good reason why it would not operate if placed less than 12" from ceiling on the wall

Looking at an LD1 system in an HMO.
Although the alarms are hardwired together (No radio bases) they don't sound simultaneously.
Some of the alarms have a rapidly flashing red light.
Any ideas?
Hi. I’ve bought a house which will be rented. The current rules in Scotland require new smoke detectors to be fitted. I have 2 hard wired ones already in the hall and landing but need a new one in the main living room. Can I add to the exsisting 2 or will the whole system need replacing...
I have been asked twice in as many months about a price to install a house alarm, nothing too fancy.
Only experience i have of alarms is the wireless sort. i am quite good at data cabling and understanding smart home technologies so would be able to pick it up quite quickly.
Can anybody...
Hi Guys,
I've recently purchased my own house and I've stripped it and re-wired. I've allowed for smoke alarms on all three levels and obviously want carbon monoxide protection. I have 230v supply and 3 core for the inter links between. The smokes aren't a great problem but does anyone know of...
Hi
I need to replace two smoke alarms in my house, one is in the hallway and the other on the upstairs landing. They are interlinked, and 240 volt powered.
Which type of smoke alarm would be best for these places, and do you have any suggestions of any particular brand of smoke alarm to use...
Hi all.
I have a friend who is having trouble with her local council. Long story.
Although she rents it out privately, the council seems to have got involved through an allegation that the property was being used (unknown to her) as an HMO.
Anyway, it's now back as a private rental and run...

My question is, do I need to encoporate mains fed smoke alarms into both story's of the extension? The customer says it required for the building regs.
Thanks guys
Hello all I'm fairly new to the forum I'm writing a post about cellphone bilge alarms on my website.

Saw a guy testing smoke alarms by blowing vapour into them from his e-cig today. Don't remember reading about that method in the manufacturer's instructions (or anywhere else). Hmm.
Domestic property (mine) having loft conversion.
So need linked fire alarms. One on each landing so 3 in all.
I'm going for the AICO Ei2110 multi sensor alarms.
Was looking at the radio link bases and then link them all up to a dedicated circuit to the CU
(not going to use lighting circuits)
So...
Hi all
Just wanted to find out if anyone else has had issues with false activations with Fike Fire Alarms (twin flex)
I have this one site where we get false alarms at least once a month due to cobwebs.
Any ideas on how to stop these?
Hi - a forum post got me thinking about domestic fire alarms and BS5839.
I haven't bought the Standard (just check the prices ...) but the IET's Electricians Guide to Fire Detection and Alarm Systems is a handy guide book, a brother to OSG and similarly priced. Also I picked up Aico's...
