Is there a device which can be used underground for joining either 16 mm2 or 25 mm2 SWA armoured cable (2 or 3 core), or do I have to bring the cables up to an above ground JB?
Am i right in thinking it is ok for a PVC 70 degree 4 core 35mm2 swa cable to use its armouring as the cpc on a sub main? I would normally always run a 16mm2 seperate cpc but this has come up in a periodic. It seems to be ok in table 54g, is this gosple or should i be applying the adiabatic...
Currently installing some 3-phase 4 core armoureds with a separate earth, same size as the Line conductors.
The question is really which end needs to be earthed on the armoured to add protection both ends, supply end or load end.
Have heard that it's only the supply end that needs...

i did some outside lights not too long ago and the client who was also a sparky wanted me to gland the armoured into a conduit box, then take the inner sheath straight through and out the other side (through a compression gland) and into the light fitting. Is this a good practice or should i...
Hi, this one is stumping me.
I have been asked to look at a swiming pool installation. The supply to house is tns, with a submain running out to a pool plant building, the installer has atempted to put the pool side on a seperate TT, however the gas pipe running to the pool building is in...
Anyone know about this multi choice and short written answer exam? I have been asked to take it but rather than bone up on stuff I won't need I was wondering if anyone had past papers or model questions? Not fussed about answers but wouldn't turn my nose up either!
OK, I have an electrician working at my house next week. He claims he is certified ( ie can self certify for building regs etc ). I believe him, most of his work to date has been of a good standard.
He is putting power into a workshop at the rear of our garden. He is replacing our house...
anyone got any ideas on this.
there is an armoured cable buried in the ground, we have traced it back as far as we can and we think it feeds a db, kill the power to the db and the db is dead, however on a CAT (used for seeing if cables are live)
its showing its still live.
also there are...
I have asked other questions about armoured in a stable yard. And i have another.
I have a lighting circuit wired loop in loop out ( again in stables )
What i propose is having trunking between each light for the feeds and then an armoured cable to each switch. Is it ok to use two different...
I have recently wired 2 external sockets in armoured cable. These sockets are in a stable yard so the armoured runs through the roofspace (clipped and then drops down at each socket and glanded properly. The armoured terminates straight in to the fusebox (again properly glanded) I keep reading...
dont think too much of this tool after 6 cuts the blade starts binding on the armouring and flicks out only to get lost so stick to the hacksaw is my recommendation to anyone considering buying one!!!:(
hiya,
The Boss brought some of these in from the wholesalers, have any of you had the chance to have a go at making a gland off? with these plastic ones, there new from pro-term. there seriously easy to make off, and you don't really need any grips to tighten them. check em out on the home...
Hello, just a little information about Steel Armoured Cable (SWA)
Steel Armoured Cable is protected by a sheath of galvanised steel. This makes it suitable for direct burial, cable ducting or it can be surfaced mounted without any further protection. It can be used for indoors and outdoors...
