Hi Everybody,
We just moved into a detached house in last friday, only to find that the RCD keeps tripping for no reason :S I have had an electrician out who checked the RCD and said the box is fine.. and must be the sockets.
We unplugged every item in the house and tried to turn the socket...

Hi all - Showing my ignorance/lack of experience here. I presume the main fuse for this system lurks inside the bulbous green box which has a seal on it. I need to pull the fuse to do some work on the system. There appears to be black slime oozing from this contraption. Any advice on how I...

Can you get contactors that switch between different poles? Like a 2-way lightswitch. I know you relays are availible, but I can't find any contactor?
Thanks :)
I’ve recently run a supply to a garage and I had a question concerning the earthing. Here is the situation:
TT supply to house.
Supply goes into a time-delay 100mA RCD before it splits.
This then goes through a sub-mains isolator at the house.
3-core SWA runs about 60 metres to garage.
17th...

Hi guys,
Tested my new kitchen circuit today, all results as expected for a new RFC except the IR between line and earth.
The resistance between line and neutral and neutral and earth is >1000 MOhms as expected, but between line and earth it's in the region of 3 MOhms.
After disconnecting...
A collegue at work has asked about having a PIR light added. Not sure if im allowed to do it but said that i would have a look into it. The Consumer unit has no RCD and is the old wylex unit that is found in so many authority houses (meteral i think / skelton type)
my thoughts would be to take...
Something that's always bugged me, and I've never fully understood WHY (just know that's it what the regs say) is why certain installations are prohibited from using TN earthing, only TT (caravan sites etc etc).
Anyone care to enlighten me?
Right, the situation is I'm changing some faulty 12volt transformers for some downlights in a kitchen. The lighting circuit is not RCD protected. Now, I know that the switch wires are buried in plaster less than 50mm from the surface. Because I've worked on this circuit and have to issue a minor...
