you have a lot to learn discipline for one thing. If you care to read your reply you have a desire and passion the operative i mentioned did not otherwise he would have bought a few tools and done willing to show a bit more interest( we advised him to get CSCS ECS cards to give him...
Hi all
I have had a request to quote for a consumer unit change in an old house in a rural village.
The wall where the unit is, is being knocked down so the circuit cables will need extending and new longer tails and earthing will need installing. I was thinking of using a Wago DIN rail...
Came across a 2.5mm fp200 4 core cable used as part of a ring today, am I right in thinking this isn't an acceptable method as there will be only 1 earth wire in the cable ??
Afternoon all, Just looking for opinions. Basically the other day I was sent to do a defects report on a building we designed the electrical installations for. So there was no testing as the contractor did this, I just had to make sure everything worked, Looked good etc.
It's the second time...
Basically as above I am a spark and I have my testing certs but work as a service engineer now my cousin had a new db fitted bit hurt he didn't ask me but the guy has fallen out with his tester so the install needs certification so I offered my services but I'm unsure if I can do it without...
Hi,
Just wandering what to use to get an armoured through a new duct which has been installed prior to me being on site without a pull rope.
Longest run is about 30 meters with probably 2 bends and is about 3 inch diameter but is the flexible type with ridges.
Will rods go that far and round...
Been to look at a job today and may need some RCBO's - my policy is always to fit the same as the CU where ever possible:
Who sells this stuff?
NB: I'm guessing that the FCU below the board was done to avoid having to fit a RCBO for those lights and probably comes off a socket circuit!
I'm moving into a apartment I use 5 300 watt incandnence light bulbs. I'm worried I'm going pull the breaker how high can I actually go. The lights draw less then what is rated usually.
Hi all I just want to recommend Xs training to any of you thinking of doing your nvq. It took me 4 years to complete but that was me being lazy and already being payed sparks rate I couldn't get motivated to start and when I got an email saying it had to be completed by the end of December that...
I'm stumped on this one. My mate has a two way garage board in his garage. Circuit 1 is lighting, circuit 2 is 3 sockets on a radial. Lighting works fine. Sockets trip main RCD in DB when switched on. 3 sockets are now disconnected. Tried to reset 16A MCB (for radial circuit) and still trips...
I have come across a situation and need a bit of help.
With a switched spur the load is connected in load and supply in supply
I have done that for a towel rail but also tgere is a second spur being feed from this spur do I connect the cable for this in the supply or load if it's a switched...
Hi All,
Many thanks in advance for any advice, I know this is the place to ask:blush5:
Basically I am a 'consumer' who's having a pv array fitted and I want to check what the contractor's intending to do. I built my current house so I don't want it going up in flames! Unlikely but I'd rather...

Hi guys, what are your thoughts on Stroma certification body? I'm starting out and therefore want to keep costs down. Initially I was going to go with NICEIC due to most people being familiar with the body. However since thinking about it, Stroma is 1/4 of the price of the NICEIC Approved...
I work a full time job working Monday, Tuesday, Friday to Sunday and then Wednesday, Thursday the next week. I've been working with a self employed electrician for the past couple of weeks as I'm doing a course with trades gateway (which I want too drop because after working with said...
I was hoping for some advice. Recently installed 5 x 4.3w Led Gu10's in a bathroom controlled with a dimmer switch. Everything works fine except my customer wants to be able to turn the dimmer right down then press it on and for lights to come on at their lowest light level. The dimmer switch...
Rather than add to 'Thoughts on recommendation' I thought it better to begin a new one.
I am a landlord in London. I think it should be mandatory for an in-date EICR whenever a new tenant takes up a lease and of course after electrical works. I present to my tenants both the EICR and Gas...
Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to help me identify this wall socket in my house. Its been bugging me for years and searching online doesn't bring anything up.
Thanks.
Did an EICR today and found that 2 weeks ago a fairly well know heater company removed a number of storage heaters and then replaced some of the DP switches with 13A sockets to plug their heaters into, plus a couple for general use!
Not a RCD in the house - all circuits on re-wireable fuses...
Hi All,
Just about the look at a job to price. I have been informed that the extension will serve as a second house for family members so they want a separate CU fed from the existing one. Not a problem after calcs (demand / diversity etc), but I am concerned about RCD from existing CU taking...
