Hi All,
Many thanks in advance for any advice, I know this is the place to ask:blush5:
Basically I am a 'consumer' who's having a pv array fitted and I want to check what the contractor's intending to do. I built my current house so I don't want it going up in flames! Unlikely but I'd rather...

Hi guys, what are your thoughts on Stroma certification body? I'm starting out and therefore want to keep costs down. Initially I was going to go with NICEIC due to most people being familiar with the body. However since thinking about it, Stroma is 1/4 of the price of the NICEIC Approved...
I work a full time job working Monday, Tuesday, Friday to Sunday and then Wednesday, Thursday the next week. I've been working with a self employed electrician for the past couple of weeks as I'm doing a course with trades gateway (which I want too drop because after working with said...
I was hoping for some advice. Recently installed 5 x 4.3w Led Gu10's in a bathroom controlled with a dimmer switch. Everything works fine except my customer wants to be able to turn the dimmer right down then press it on and for lights to come on at their lowest light level. The dimmer switch...
Rather than add to 'Thoughts on recommendation' I thought it better to begin a new one.
I am a landlord in London. I think it should be mandatory for an in-date EICR whenever a new tenant takes up a lease and of course after electrical works. I present to my tenants both the EICR and Gas...
Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to help me identify this wall socket in my house. Its been bugging me for years and searching online doesn't bring anything up.
Thanks.
Did an EICR today and found that 2 weeks ago a fairly well know heater company removed a number of storage heaters and then replaced some of the DP switches with 13A sockets to plug their heaters into, plus a couple for general use!
Not a RCD in the house - all circuits on re-wireable fuses...
Hi All,
Just about the look at a job to price. I have been informed that the extension will serve as a second house for family members so they want a separate CU fed from the existing one. Not a problem after calcs (demand / diversity etc), but I am concerned about RCD from existing CU taking...
Been testing today on a new installation, it was a lighting circuit all lighting weird via click roses. Came to the rcbo test, trips on 5x at 100ms then says plus 40 on 5x. Quickly swapped out rcbo thinking it was just faulty and does same again with the new one. Some rooting around in loft i...

As the title, anyone here got experience of leaving jobs part way through?
I've a client we've been doing some major work for that is pi$$ing me right off. Making all sorts of unreasonable demands and is now saying that the work he's been really happy with up to now is a load of crap and has...
Clutching at straws here methinks but I promised a client I'd do my best.
Scenario is a stable block being knocked down and rebuilt with the existing supply definately not being replaced. The client has asked if a shower head on a long hose is possible so that horses and dogs can be washed down...
Hi all,
My generator is only putting out about 50v when I start it up. After revving it for a bit it puts out 100v, but obviously still not enough for my 110v drills. It's quite old but don't really want to get rid of it. Anyone able to help with what's wrong with it?
TIA
Austin

I'd like to investigate the idea of doing the 'Design and verification' course as (I always knew it anyway). I'v did NVQ 3, 2330, 2391, HNC etc etc but never quite round to this one. The trouble I'm having is working out is what they call it nowadays!! (i.e what numbers as it all seems to have...
Hello
I am a qualified electrician with level 3 2330, and 17th edition wiring regulations qualifications. I do not possess 2391.
I no longer work full time as an electrician and am curious as to whether I am able to advertise and carry out any work myself, despite not having 2391 and being...

Evening all,
About 6/7/8?? months ago I was called to see a elderly client (who I had previously done one or two small jobs for) who's electric awning would not open. It turned out to be the battery in the remote control!! I had to make 2 journeys out to him and buy the 'odd' battery off the...
