Hi
firstly I would have posted in the diy forum but I don't have permission. Hopefully someone can advise me though.
We have a fluorescent ceiling pendant light in a recently rewired kitchen. After a few weeks there was a blue spark and bang and the light stopped working. Switching the power...
Hello sparks
I was at a Job earlier today, the customers upstairs lights would not turn on due to the 6A mcb operating so it's a short circuit so I disconnected the supply to the first light the supply disconnected from consumer unit ,then did a insulation resistance which came out clear tried...
On dedicated 16amp mcb Wired in 2.5t&e to sfcu (13a fuse) then 2.5mm heat resistant flex. Fuse has popped twice in last 8 weeks etc. Element R 18ohms. all seems ok? Should I just swap sfcu for 20amp double pole switch? haven't clamped to measure the draw yet as didn't have it with me.
Cheers
Basically I have around 40 down lighter's on one circuit.

...cos if the lamp is in effect Class II with connections only to L and N (Edison screw; standard bayonet cap in unearthed pendant or batten), you would naively think there is no way the L and N can be in imbalance. But still the RCD trips. Definitely talking RCD trips here not MCB. I've seen...
Some latvian contractors had complained about a welder blowing a fuse on an extension lead repeatedly,Finally they announced they didn't need the electrician calling out as they had resolved the issue, yes that is a piece of an M6 bolt!

Evening all, got a customer who is complaining that her light bulbs across the house keep blowing, and could I come and have a look at it. Short of stripping the circuit down and testing it, ensuring all connections are tight etc, can anyone suggest what might be the problem. She did tell me...
Hi all, myself & another spark rewired a large 8 bedroomed house earlier in the year I got a call recently from customer telling me that bulbs keep blowing in 2 bathrooms 4x G9s and a candle bulb in wall light downstairs. The lights are all on the same bank of MCBs RCD protected and on 1.5m2...
I have wired 9 LED lights in a utility room. I wired a 1.5mm cable from the CCU to the 1G switch and then took another 1.5mm from the switch in a radial formation to each of the 9 lights ending with just one cable at the 9th light.
I wired these in a week before the builders put the ceiling...

Called out by a plumber I do work for. He had recently installed a new zone valve and chaged CH/HW programmer. A fortnight later the customer calls him because he has lost all heating. Plumber turns up, realises 3A fuse has blown in switched fused spur. He can't change it without it blowing...
Hi all.
After running my own company I am now employed by a company that I'm beginning to have my doubts about. Prices seem very high- 10,000 for a 1.5/2kwp install (with disounts) and no-one really knows what constitutes a good system, knowledge of regulations is sketchy at best and although...
Hi guys, so I've moved into a new place but near enough every week a spotlight lamp will blow, tripping the RCBO and meaning I dish out £3 for a new lamp. This has been going on for a few months and now I've had 2 MK dimmer module switches blow on me in the last week. They are £25 a piece and I...
