Hi all
I don't appear to be able to post in the DIY forum so apologies if this is the wrong place.
I live in a block of flats with an external CU for the external (and some internal) circuits, which are 90% lighting with a couple of sockets here and there.
The RCBOs keep tripping on three of...
I have a 50 amp circuit going to my camper and a 30 amp going to my water well submersible pump. I want to add a washer and dryer in a shed but I dont have any more room for fuses. Can I replace the attachment points for fuses to add more? OR do I need to buy a different meter/fuse box combo.
Ok. Can you cut a ring in half, add junction box, then run a spur off it? I thought it had to be from a socket?
Mate of mine wanted me to see if "a couple of wires were dead". Looks like old ring main, but they go in the wylex fusebox, so will have to check they are properly removed. Ends...
HVAC company installed new outdoor heat pump and said I also needed new indoor air handler. When attaching the new air handler the old wire was too short. Instead of installing a new wire they took the electrical circuit box and moved it so the wire could reach the new air handler. And now I am...
I know I’ve seen them before…. But I can’t think of a name.
I’m needing a line of metal back boxes in a kitchen… 2 lots of 2x 2 gang and a 1 gang. I just want them to look evenly spaced.
I could do it with a couple of brass bushes and a steel conduit coupling, but I’m sure I’ve seen a plastic...
Trying to connect a 50 amp inlet box to my Siemens outdoor combination panel 200 amp cutoffs. Can’t figure out where to insert the 50 amp breaker since the 200 amp breakers appear to cover the whole panel. The panel has two 200 amp breakers, but want to connect it to just one of the panel...
Good day. Is there something wrong with this junction box (code violation) for a wall fixture? It is secured to studs. Old construction. Need it for a heavy fixture (16lb), usual boxes are rated up to 10 pounds and I don't want to cut the wall to install wood support. Previous fixture was...
I didn't get a picture so will have to wait until I go back again but I've done a crude drawing of what was there.
Its in a commercial set up with a poly-phase meter, the distribution board and switchgear were all quite old but the meter looked fairly new, it was the usualll 3 phase in and 3...
I was wondering if you know whether this is something I can safely disconnect and remove? Think it's from old internet set up. The cover said virgin media. Thanks!
Doing a rewire at the minute and was wondering if anyone has ever seen or heard of a lighting circuit being connected somewhere in an installation with 8/9 cables connected.
I’m an apprentice so I’m curious about most things and was wondering if you was to do an EICR how you would code this...
I recently purchased a vacation condo and found this box back behind where the tv goes, next to a coaxial outlet. Never seen one before, and haven't been able to find it on a google search. There are 4 sets of small bose speakers in each corner of the room so wondering if it is for those, but...
Have a contractor trying to run a new electric line to a 'picture light' over the fireplace mantle.
As you can see in the photos, the entire wall has plywood beneath sheetrock (load bearing wall). - As they, nor I, have stuck our heads into the attic, they just decided to staple the new line...
Hello,
I had an electrician install GFCI receptacles (as per their recommendation) due to my homes older electrical wiring.
I also have asbestos in my walls so I want to avoid ripping existing boxes out and replacing the 2 with larger ones.
I drywalled over the existing wall in my sons...
I dropped my multi-tool onto a 10/3 wire yesterday when removing some rotted flooring in a mobile home. I could see a bit of copper so I don't feel comfortable just wrapping it in electrical tape and calling it good.
There is a crawl space underneath the mobile home where I can have the wire...
Hi,
Looking for more advice please. My electrician has spurred off a cable under flooring using what seem to be wago type connectors (push in, no screws). They are not enclosed in a box and the flooring is boarded and will be tiled over when refurbished. Is this acceptable by current regs or...
Forgive me, for all my terminology is going to be wrong here. My home has an old fuse box that handles a small section of the house. They take the Bussmann T15 fuses. I've recently had a fuse blow in an unconventional way. The metal strip inside the fuse is still intact. Instead, it appears to...
I just changed out a 3 gang switch box in my bathroom to a single gang box with a 3 single pole switch. It works fine but wondering if I need to worry about overheating. It is a deep single gang box which just fits in the 2 x 4 wall but there are 5 wires going into this box. Do I need to get a...
Hi all,
First post here, hope I'm compliant with the rules! I did do a quick search before asking this, but I couldn't quite come up with the answer so I thought it best to ask!
I'm currently going through and renovating some of my property, and the garage wiring is of some slight concern to...
Hi, could anyone advise, this is the fuse box for the private rental flat above ours, its at the bottom of there stairs which is there only escape route, would this be upto spec, we had to have our flat completely rewired with new consumer unit after failing inspection, the owner of the upstairs...
Hi all,
Looking at putting in either putty or those premade fibre socket box inserts for fire rating + air leakage reasons. Just wondering if anyone has any experience and if the putty you have to mould in yourself is better than the premade fibre boxes or not.
