I’ve been looking on eBay for a new tool box. My Stanley one has cracked. I’ve seen this. But I’m not sure about the depth of the draws for hand tools...
Hi all
I don't appear to be able to post in the DIY forum so apologies if this is the wrong place.
I live in a block of flats with an external CU for the external (and some internal) circuits, which are 90% lighting with a couple of sockets here and there.
The RCBOs keep tripping on three of...
I collect old Electrical Fittings and I recently acquired this vintage Junction Box (photos attached). I've been trying to figure out how it would have been wired in/used.
This Bakelite Junction Box has a Depth of 1¼ inches with an outside Diameter of 2½ inches.

I have a 50 amp circuit going to my camper and a 30 amp going to my water well submersible pump. I want to add a washer and dryer in a shed but I dont have any more room for fuses. Can I replace the attachment points for fuses to add more? OR do I need to buy a different meter/fuse box combo.
I'm trying to fit dimmer switches but there there isn't enough space in the back boxes. I have replaced some of the boxes with deeper units and cut down wires but there still isn't enough space. Any ideas?
Ok. Can you cut a ring in half, add junction box, then run a spur off it? I thought it had to be from a socket?
Mate of mine wanted me to see if "a couple of wires were dead". Looks like old ring main, but they go in the wylex fusebox, so will have to check they are properly removed. Ends...
I found a 13A FCU, connected to the kitchen ring supplying an outdoor junction box, providing two SWA 2.5mm radials. Unconventional? yes. One radial 3m long to IP56 socket, and one radial supplying garage unit, lightning and power.
HVAC company installed new outdoor heat pump and said I also needed new indoor air handler. When attaching the new air handler the old wire was too short. Instead of installing a new wire they took the electrical circuit box and moved it so the wire could reach the new air handler. And now I am...
I know I’ve seen them before…. But I can’t think of a name.
I’m needing a line of metal back boxes in a kitchen… 2 lots of 2x 2 gang and a 1 gang. I just want them to look evenly spaced.
I could do it with a couple of brass bushes and a steel conduit coupling, but I’m sure I’ve seen a plastic...
Trying to connect a 50 amp inlet box to my Siemens outdoor combination panel 200 amp cutoffs. Can’t figure out where to insert the 50 amp breaker since the 200 amp breakers appear to cover the whole panel. The panel has two 200 amp breakers, but want to connect it to just one of the panel...
Good day. Is there something wrong with this junction box (code violation) for a wall fixture? It is secured to studs. Old construction. Need it for a heavy fixture (16lb), usual boxes are rated up to 10 pounds and I don't want to cut the wall to install wood support. Previous fixture was...
I didn't get a picture so will have to wait until I go back again but I've done a crude drawing of what was there.
Its in a commercial set up with a poly-phase meter, the distribution board and switchgear were all quite old but the meter looked fairly new, it was the usualll 3 phase in and 3...
Hi Everyone,
Sorry in advance if this is a silly question.
There is a junction box in my mother's kitchen, on the wall above her kitchen cabinet. It looks like one of these:

Can I ask if it is unsafe to have these in kitchens...
I was wondering if you know whether this is something I can safely disconnect and remove? Think it's from old internet set up. The cover said virgin media. Thanks!
Hello,
My house has 25mm back boxes throughout, but I’ve noticed the previous owner has installed sockets and switches that seem to suggest/specify 35mm minimum. The sockets and switches do still fit flush on the wall, just that it is incredibly tight behind so the wiring has been routed...
Doing a rewire at the minute and was wondering if anyone has ever seen or heard of a lighting circuit being connected somewhere in an installation with 8/9 cables connected.
I’m an apprentice so I’m curious about most things and was wondering if you was to do an EICR how you would code this...
I recently purchased a vacation condo and found this box back behind where the tv goes, next to a coaxial outlet. Never seen one before, and haven't been able to find it on a google search. There are 4 sets of small bose speakers in each corner of the room so wondering if it is for those, but...
Have a contractor trying to run a new electric line to a 'picture light' over the fireplace mantle.
As you can see in the photos, the entire wall has plywood beneath sheetrock (load bearing wall). - As they, nor I, have stuck our heads into the attic, they just decided to staple the new line...
Hello,
I had an electrician install GFCI receptacles (as per their recommendation) due to my homes older electrical wiring.
I also have asbestos in my walls so I want to avoid ripping existing boxes out and replacing the 2 with larger ones.
I drywalled over the existing wall in my sons...
I dropped my multi-tool onto a 10/3 wire yesterday when removing some rotted flooring in a mobile home. I could see a bit of copper so I don't feel comfortable just wrapping it in electrical tape and calling it good.
There is a crawl space underneath the mobile home where I can have the wire...
