What cable would you use to connect this light through a cavity wall to a FCU the other side of the wall?
I am thinking, 1.5mm² 3 Core NYY-J Cable,
or 1.5mm² 3 Core Rubber Flex.
The light that is being replaced has twin and earth as it has choc box connectors which won't work on the new light...
Hi all, just a quick query really.
I'm and apprentice on me second year and currently doing my design project and confused about length of run per circuit.
I know you can't exceed 30m per circuit but what about lighting? Does this include separate switches? Like can I power one grid switch...
Hi , Wondered if anyone can help , i currently install and test Trace Heating Cable on Mechanical Pipework for Frost protection . Recently our Clients are asking for a recordable test that states cable lengh of the circuit and a test to determine if there is a fault in the cable.
Currently using...
Hello
I’m going to install a hard wired 230v security camera, incorporating floodlights, outside and above garage door onto brick.
An exposed expanded metal lintel (that is hollow) runs across the garage door opening. Outside it has a decorative brick facing. The brick is not load bearing.
I...
Hi all,
I’m now ready to install my hob, I have a 32A MCB with 6mm T&E feeding a 50A rated switched supply at the worktop. The hob isn’t supplied with a power cable and the manual says it needs connected using a H03V2V2-F or H05BB-F cable with a temperature withstand of 90 deg C minimum. I’ve...
Hi
Doncaster EV ultra cable:
Does anyone know what the current capacity of these cables is given particular reference methods?
The spec sheet just says 'Max current' 45amps (for the 4mm) but it doesn't state the reference method.
The manufacturer does have a very handy cable calculator...
Afternoon all. I’m doing a dorma / loft extension all circuits for that extension are new . I’m going to upgrade the consumer unit also to rcbo/spd. Now I took a switch off yesterday on the existing lighting circuit and noticed the twin and earth cable had a green goo inside the insulation when...
Hey guys, thinking of relocating my sub board in my unit to a new location. Does the cable from the main switch Board to the sub board need to be a continuous run or am I able to put a junction box and extend the main cable to its new location?
Hi,
This might be a bit of a stupid question, but if I’m wanting to join T&E 16mm2 cable to 16mm2 SWA in an outdoor junction box which connectors would I use? The Wago ones for example I’m seeing only seem to go up to 6mm2, unless I’m missing something obvious.
My reason for asking is I’m...
I have been carrying out an EICR on a property and have come across this black tarry substance on 2 of the cables.
I have seen the pitch oozing out of a cut out before and I don't think it's this. Mainly because I thought that was only on the cut out fuse.
It's also not green, so it's not...
I am an enthusiastic retired engineer rebuilding a barn in France from scratch and am having problems sizing my incoming electrical cables. I have had answers from 4mm to 50mm cross section from various pages on the internet so you can understand I am a bit confused.
There are two main cables...
Hi there , is there anything else to consider when using 5 core SWA instead of 4 core + separate Earth in three phase installations for cable calcs etc? Apologies but just moving in to the 21st century never used 5 core before
Hello all
Just doing some cable calcs for a shepards hut site, the site has an incoming supply of 2 x 250a single phase supplys, was hoping to run a 4 core down from incomer to a board then split off to each hut.
Do i have to work it out on single phase 230v or can i work it out on 400v
Hello All,
New to the Solar world.
A question that is most likely easy, if you can tell me where I can find this in the regs or ACOP please let me know.
can solar PV cables be run outside in Plastic Conduit? I have heard before it should be metal but I can't seem to find where it states this...
Hi guys,
Whilst renewing my loft insulation I came across a few runs of very old cable. (Please see attached pictures).
These cables are lead sheathed and looks to have a very brittle black insulation around the tinned copper or aluminium?
The red and black is wrapped around each wire in like...
So, I already have solar (an older FITS installation) and it's been particularly successful so I want to extend this.
I'd like to do two things at this point. 1) Add more panels in a couple of locations. 2) Add battery storage to provide some backup (power regularly drops for us) but mainly to...
Hi guys, some advice on the damaged cable on the picture posted would be greatly appreciated.
I want to know the factors on how a wire can get exposed like this? How can one make it safe and other information like how old the wire looks?
Thank you
I am making a lamp and I need to run the live, earth and neutral wires through a hole in 25mm mdf. The outer sheath is removed due to a switch.
Everything works until the wires go through the mdf. Then the live has no current. The hole is about 6mm diameter.
What's happening?
Thanks.
