Hi all,
The service cable is on the outside of my wall in the porch. What’s the best way to cover it with complying with current regulations? Would it just be a case of capping it and blocking it out?
Many thanks
Inspired by a recent video from the 'plumber'.
How are we all connecting up our bollards? I've seen several methods in the past including not earthing the steel wires to using a wiska box with glands on like the plumber does.
What do you all think is the best way?

Does anyone know what the cable in the picture is called? Or anything about it?
Labelling on the outside is “E SPC Electric Cable 600/1000v”
Its an odd one, looks like SWA. When you look inside it only has one core used for the live conductor. Then it has a load of black insulated strands that...
The customer has suggested from a previous electrician that the oven requires a new circuit installed . Upon viewing the instructions it is stated that the total power consumption is 5kw and cable size should be 2.5mm .
The customer has a kitchen ring main with a previous fuse spur for a cooker...
Just reading through my Student's Guide and wondering about nominal amperage.
If guaranteed trip is 5x nominal amperage, what's to stop 2.5mm cable on a 20a radial circuit from running at 70a or something and completely destroying the cable/potentially your house?
Hi all, quick question - I have to replace a lateral supply cable where the existing one runs through the ceiling of the basement flat and up through the floor into a communal hallway to an old Ryefield, feeding 5 properties. The issue is that the building is listed and I'm being told that...
Do you install new heating systems? Ever had a missing cable run between a boiler and a pump?
Using MAINSLINK - the pump overrun solution - you can avoid expensive cable runs when cables are missing between a boiler and a pump. When the MAINSLINK by the boiler has 230Vac live input, this...
Hi,first off this does not relate to work I intend to DIY. I'm trying to sanity check information I've been asked to provide to the installers.
I want the solar invertert to connect in the garage, where there's a DB fed from the house via SWA.
This is what's asked ..
As the proposed PV...
Hey all,
Ive been in and out of a huge house rewiring as the renovate it for a year of so. Every is thing done and dusted except the downstairs shower. I ran a 10mm from the CU to a stud partition where the Isolator sits and then onto the shower. About 15-20m in total.
Ive gone back today and...
Hi All,
I have a client who is developing a plot of land for a single house. Currently, their 100 amp service cut-out is in a cubicle fed by overhead cable, however, this is in the way of the build. Rather than having the cubicle moved before the build and then again once the build is...
Good afternoon you brainy people.
I recently acquired a couple of beer pumps for my garden room bar. These are purely for decoration purposes.
One of which has an electric cable, so I thought I could fit a plug and it would light up.
When I stripped the cable back, I noticed it had one purple...
I'm in the process of installing Catenary Cables to support 2x SWA and 2x cat5e cables, over a distance of a small distance of 1.5m.
The cable entry hole at the garage is 2.30m high and the house cable exit hole is just under 3.0m high.
Below the supported cable is the garden gate/door and...
This from a while ago but reading about everyone elses problems tonight made me remember this one. The original job was the lights in a recent cellar conversion weren't working althoug they did work for a while. Sure enough you switched the MCB on, the lights lit briefly and then the MCB...
Came across a cooker circuit with 10mm and 40A rcbo. Last leg was 6mm. Isolator to outlet. I downgraded to rcbo to 32A to accommodate the 6mm. Does the cable have to be the same throughout? If so what is the reg for this please. 🤔
We might need to pull a cable through around 100m of fairly wide duct (around 10cm) and it might not have an existing draw rope. It has a 28mm water pipe and CAT-5 network cable in there, so one option might be to use the cable as a sacrificial means of pulling a rope and another cable through...
Hi all. This is my first post on here so hopefully some of you will be able to suggest something other than my ideas. Worked as a spark for 19 years but mainly commercial so you guys will have better ways of doing domestic.
here's the question. Ive got a job in a Big detatched victorian house...
Hi all,
I have a light in the under stairs cupboard which is controlled by a switch in the hall.
The under stairs cupboard is being taken out soon, meaning the light will be redundant so obviously I would like to make safe and remove it.
There is no loop in/out at the light fitting...
Hi All
I would appreciate some help with a few questions here regarding cables sizing, I'm using the latest 18th edition, amendment 2.
Q1. p.443, Table 4CQ - derating factors for groups cables - in the table it states "cables touching" but then Note 2 says "horizontal clearances between...
Hello. I am doing a campervan conversion and will be doing the wiring shortly. I have some M8 non insulated cable lugs for my different sized cables but some studs on the fuses and the fuse box are M6 and M5. So the M8 lugs are quite large for some connections. Is that an issue? Am I better...
