Hey Guy's I thought that I would set up a thread for discussions on the Canadian code and their lingo! Yes they speak English but not when it comes to their electrics, like do you know what Marrettes are? do you know what raceways are, how about the difference between grounded and grounding...

Hi, ive a job waiting for me in Alberta as a sparky but concerned about journeyman exam. Firstly is it written exam or multi choice? I have 14years of experience of electrics but never touched comms or fire alarm systems, do they include that in the exams? Been told that I have 150 days before...
I'm working at a shop in Southampton oing some electrical work and the owner has just asked asked fire alarm enginer to test the existing system.
Can anyone tell me what price it should be for a average system test as this guy is charging over £600!!!!
Is this correct. We have removed a 2KW air extraction fan today to relocate. L1L2L3 connected to U1V1W1 but their wasn't any links fitted to make either star or delta.
There's no plate attached anywhere either.
How come, always thought the links had to be fitted to make star or delta for the...
I know I’ve run this thread before but I’ve just found some new photo’s of where I worked. This was a normal Sunday nights start up. I used to love this, the biggest fireworks display ever. I’ve had new engineers run terrified from it. An electrical and mechanical engineer had to be immediately...
Hi,
I have wired an extension on my dads dairy that is constructed out of food grade panels (sheets of insulation sandwiched by sheets of metal) and am wondering if these need to be main bonded. The sheets of metal are covered in an unconductive material that means there is no continuity...

As it can cause hot spots in the cable.
I can see the theory,
But it just doesn't sound right,

So I can read up
Cheers
Working on a large commercial job, each floor has 2 lighting and 2 power boards and presumably others for mechanical etc. One of the RCBOs was noticed to be overheating/melting and was assumed faulty so changed. After a few days, melting again, so it was changed again. The next time it happened...
Hi all,
I am currently installing emergency lighting in a pub and was wondering if i am right in thinking that escape route signs/lights need to be maintained emergency lights as opposed to non-maintained lights.
I would be grateful for any help with this matter.
Thanks in advance
Dan

This is a vague one at the moment which needs further investigation (before anyone says it, the installation is securely isolated while we complete the work!).
We supply valves, actuators and loggers for water treatment sites. We're recommissioning an old logger which is situated a fair way...
I came a high PFC in a domestic installation a few weeks ago and the consensus on the forum was that it was ok because the main fuse was rated at 33KA so the mcbs (rated at 6KA) would be ok.
Came across similar situation in factory. A PIR had been carried out by another company and I was asked...
I am working for a company that has loads of bus bar running around the factory. They have asked me to supply some new bus bar tap off boxes ,but I am unable to find anything to fit. The bus bar is English Electric CO.LTD. It looks like it was fitted in the 60's or 70's. Does anyone have any...
