So I’m an apprentice and only get to do downlighter jobs as foreigners at the weekend, but they’re typically added when the customer no longer wants a pendant so the ceiling is already finished and I’ve never seen downlights being wired while the ceiling is exposed and then finding them after...

WIRING FOR WALL SMART SWITCH FOR CEILING FAN/LIGHT
Just bought a smart wall switch for a ceiling fan/light currently connected to a single switch, fan has pull chains. Pretty sure I know the wires connected to the wall switch, not my first rodeo, but just want to make sure so I don’t blow the...
Hi, have an old bathroom fan. Which has two wires the black and red (line and neutral).
The fan has no isolator switch and was powered when the bathroom light came on. When turning the light off, the bathroom fan stopped.
I disconnected the fan wiring from the ceiling rose to clean the fan. Now...
Hi There
Just a quick one, I'm wondering what's everyone's thoughts on this are.
A subby has clipped a cable to a plaster board ceiling using 3m sticky pads and plastic cable ties, below that ceiling is a number of steel beams spanning the length of the corridor and then below them is a...
Hi, there are 3 bundles of wires coming from my ceiling and I've been told they have been tested with a multimeter and have all got a current but I cannot seem to get the light to work, I will provide pictures of the wiring, the pendant and the switch wiring, any advice would be appreciated...
Hi guys,
I have recently encountered that my circuit breaker for the upstairs lights keeps tripping. I flick it back on and immediately it trips off again. I think the issue is coming from the bathroom light. So I have had a look at the ceiling rose and the picture shows what is going on. Note...
A rose in my 1970s kitchen ceiling became loose (one fixing screw had been inserted right on the edge of the hole in the ceiling) and when I removed it I was faced with a jumble of wires. The green & yellow one was attached to the earth terminal in the rose, four red wires were twisted together...
Hi, I need some advice on the wiring for a new ceiling light. I have taken down the original light, and I'm left with the wiring in the image ceiling_wiring_01.jpg. There are three cables coming off a connector block in the ceiling, each with a live and neutral and a single earth wire on its...
Hi,
I am trying to replace an old ceiling light with a new one. My current connection has 3 wires and not sure how I should be wiring this. Please can someone help
Hello. I hope everyone is safe and healthy.
Please see the attached photos for reference. I have a ceiling with a junction box or maybe it should be called a "junction circle/box" - photo #1. It is 3 3/4" in diameter. This is where I want to mate my fixture displayed in photo #2 which is 5"...
I am adding a light fixture in a room I am restoring in my 160 yo house. I have ran a new 12-2 w/ground wire from the ceiling box to a junction box where I am tapping into an existing wire that goes to another room. In the junction box, I have attached all white wires together, including the...
This weekend I was replacing a hall light fixture in my old home (rewired circa 1980/90's) and noticed the work was done using one of the exposed ground wires as one of the switch leg/loop travelers on a 3-way. Obviously, this is completely wrong and a fire hazard, so I decided to try to rework...
Just replacing a ceiling light and could do with some guidance on sorting out all the wiring.
This is how it was:
And the light is expecting just the 3 wires:
Wondering what's the best way to tackle it. I could do with removing that block in the ceiling altogether and somehow having just 3...
I am installing a ceiling fan in a newly built home. The builders have left the wiring for this purpose. In the electrical box on the ceiling I have a black, white, red and green (ground) wire. The ceiling fan has only three wires (black, white & green (ground))
initially I connected black...

I took a photograph of the old wiring set up( which was working) and used it as a guide for wiring the new one.
The lights themselves are housed in the loft above and I was wondering if a fuse has blown in the plug or that there is a reboot button somewhere.
Hey - so here is a connundrum!
I installed a 5-bulb ceiling light (see pic) but when I put the 4w LED bulbs in, they start making a very rapid ticking sound (sound file here).
The sound is much more pronounced once you put the 4th and more so when you put the 5th bulb in.
To make sure it wasn't...
The other day I noticed my ceiling fan wouldn't turn on. The light still worked but the fan was dead. Is it possible for the capacitor to look pristine with no bulges or even a burnt smell and still be bad?
