Hi, my name is Ian and I am relatively new to the forums, joining due to the excellent source of solar / green energy information. However, I have a question regarding solar panel mounting clamps. An installation by the now defunct Ploughcroft needed panels removing for roof maintenance...
At a domestic property today I noticed the earthing had been "upgraded" with a water/gas pipe earthing clamp used on the incoming cable, see below.
I seem to recall earth clamps need to apply equal pressure all round, to avoid a risk of puncturing the insulation.
I was there to do something...
Are there any circumstances when it might be acceptable to tick the "Continuity and Connection Verified" box of the Electrical Installation Certificate when there is no visual or physical access to the point at which the bonding (normally a clamp in domestic) is applied. If so what checks over...
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced clamp meter that can measure milli amps.
I have a customer who's rcd trips every so often. So I was wanting to test for earth leakage.
Thanks
Trying to find out the best place to get the two meters calibrated, it almost seems cheaper to buy a new one that get them calibrated.
What does everyone else do regarding theirs?
I'm upgrading some main bonding prior to a board change, but got a quick question.
The incoming water supply is a metal pipe below the wooden floor in the living room, but the stop cock is in an inspection pit outside.
As I understand, the bonding has to be connected as soon as possible inside...
Seeing as there are a few Immersun dealers on the forum now, I reckon someone may be able to help me out.
We went to look at a job yesterday which looks like a good candidate for an Immersun unit BUT the consumer unit is a fair way away from the incoming mains (where the PV system CU is also...
Hi everyone,
I'm a newly qualified electrician and im working for a company that have asked to the fit a mccb, my boss sent me this email today and im not completely sure what he means, any help would be great as I really dont want to call him tomorrow asking how to install it. Any help would...
Following the unfortunate demise of my clamp I need to get another. It got crushed, my own fault as I left it on the step of the van whilst I sorted some other kit out, forgot it was there, it fell off and I drove over it.
So, I'm after recommendations and personal opinions on what...
Hi. I've got a high earth leakage value on a main db supplying many 3phase cables. What's the best way to find the leakage values on each cable? Some of them can't be turned off. If I clamp around all 4 live conductors as they enter the db would this give me the earth leakage?
Hey guys. After a little advice on dc clamp meters. Need to get one for measuring direct currents (mainly for pv systems). I don't want to buy too cheap and regret it but does anyone have any reviews on this piece of kit...
Hi guys,
I need to know the current drawn per pc workstation.
1x medium spec desktop pc
1x flat screen monitor
Simple enough you'd think.
I can't find my clamp meter. (my dads old meter, I never had call to use it, it's probably an antique) and I can't get a multimeter to work when connected...
went to job late today 2 new fans fitted with speed controllers working fine until you turn them up to max speed and it trips out. Then the whole site had gone down it hadnt just tripped the mcb but the mccc feeding the db. This happened twice was doing some investigating when the site agent...
I want to invest in one of these, it's primary function will be for me to measure the mA on circuits where IT is in use, it seems they can be useful to determine where a fault might be on a circuit, I would be greatful for you opinions on these options. What i can't quite fathom and hoping...
I cannot believe the quality of some Installations that I have come across of late, here are some pictures of one I drove past today.
Look at the panel overhanging the hip, and where it is clamped.:tt1:
So, Ive just bought a new clamp meter. Now, if I wanted to measure the current for say, a micro wave, I would have to strip the flex back enough so I could get the clamp round one cable only....
Now I have just seen that in America, they have an adaptation that plugs into the socket, then the...
Going to invest in a clamp meter, nothing really flash needed, thinking of the basic Kewtech KT200.
Any reasons for or against this model ?
