Been asked to swap over a class 1 fitting for another old existing class 1 on a first floor hallway - however there is no cpc on the light circuit! (early 1960s house). In the loft there is a rfc junction box close at hand. What about putting a 4mm g/y single from the light fitting to the J.B...
I'm looking at the options for customer who has no CPC on lights as is quite common. I know the ESC "good practice guide" - and that all makes good sense.
However most light switches with exposed screws into metal back boxes (where metal box is unearthed because no CPC), would therefore be...
Hiya Guys,
Ive got a customer who wants his CU changing, main earthing and bonding is fine but theres no CPC's to the two lighting circuits.
Installing CPC's would be major surgery and I doubt very much they have the money to pay for it but they're elderly and have to call for help if one of...

Hi all, i am using Martindale EasyPat 2100.
My course tutor told me to use the flash gun as a probe for insulation test on class II. Is this correct?
If not am i just meant to use the crocodile clip with any exposed metal?

Quick one....again
client wants class 1 light fitting in kitchen. At preset no earthing on lighting circuits. All existing fittings are class 2. Is there any way a class 1 can be fitted with no earth? Say if its noted down on certificate and client made aware of this. All circuits protected by...
Did an EICR on a 8 bedroom hotel a few weeks ago, issued the report yesterday, every bedroom has class 1 fittings, I assume they cost a few quid, they were put up by the odd job man, Lighting circuit has no cpc as its wired in twin red/black, I said its not a problem if we change them to...

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone out there has a copy of the assignment for unit 302 that can be emailed to me. I don't want the answers.
Reason I ask is it's a 2 week easter break and I want to crack on with it before it's handed out in class.
Hope someone can help.
Thank you
Elliot

Hi Guys,
Has anyone come across this SMPS from RS, 445-107.
Blurb says its class 1, because it has an earth pin.
I cannot get a circuit from the earth pin to the '-' of the output.
I have sent RS a question about this but have not had a reply.
Must fail it as a class 1 appliance.

A bit flummoxed here guys, any advice gratefully accepted.
I need to sound the bells on a Gent 4 zone panel for class changes in a school. To do this, I must short out terminals C1 & C2 within the panel from a remote timer. The timer is an approx 70mtr cable run away. I have run a 1.5mm 2c swa...
Hi guys,
When performing an earth continuity test on class 1 appliances can you get away with just using a 200mA current on every piece of equipment?
Having been on the 2377 course they say to use 1.5 times the fuse rating upto 26A for non IT.
Need clarification as to what is right...
No class II markings = class I test.
We have Rascal scanning equipment.
plug in IEC lead.
IEC lead passed test, after replacing 13a fuse with 3a fuse.
Switched mode power supply, 50-250vac input. 12vdc output.
no class II markings, all plastic body, but earth connection via the IEC lead. So...
A class of thirty students are presented with a question for there level 3 class assignment.
L1 AND L1 = 2 Ohms
N1 AND N1 = 2000 Ohms
E 1 AND E1 = 2 0hms
29 of them say open circuit on the neutral.
1 says it is a high resistance fault because it is a finite reading and there for it can not be...

Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of an outside pendant (coaching lantern style) in plastic or polycarbonate? I can find wall-mounted versions but the customer wants to replace his existing (metal) one without paying to run a cpc to it.
Thanks.
I am compiling an EICR on a period style house with wiring dating back to mid 60's. The installation has a fuseboard with 3036 fuses protecting all circuits. The bathroom has neither RCD protection or evident supplementary bonding arrangements although there is a 10mm bond to the main water...

Hi all,
I have just read an old periodic report that has highlighted a TT system that has an RCD main switch mounted in a non insulated enclosure (metal) as a category 2.
Does it state anywhere in the reg that the RCD should be in an insulated (plastic) enclosure. I've had a look but cant find...
