Started on a rather large PIR this afternoon and have noticed the following so for:
1. Smoke alarm positioned over stairs
2. Some downlights completely covered in loft insulation
3. 13A socket in loft on lighting circuit
Was thinking about coding them 4, 2, 2
Your thoughts?

Does anyone know the rules relating to IP codes for consumer units. My understanding is that the top of the CU is supposed to be IP4x and all other sides IP2x but I'd like to clarify.
What if the CU is mounted over 2.5m (not new install of course!!)
What do you guys do to restore the IP...
Hi.
I'm currently studying for full scope and for some reason it took me FOREVER to find the page of IP codes as it's not listed in the index.
To save someone else a similar pain in the arse, I thought I would post it here.
It's page 319 of the BS7671 17th edition.
Hope someone finds...
Hi guys.
Just wanted to ask what code you would give an old wylex fuse board with wooden enclosure. It does have the plastic (plexolin I think it's called) plate at the back.
Also 2.5 T+E with 1.0mm CPC used for a ring main on a 3036 fuse.
Thanks in advance.

I would like to know the correct recommendation code to give to a distribution board which is not fitted with a main swithed disconnector. The DB in question is an (old english electric) board, which is fitted with BS88 fuses, it is supplied from a main switch bank in another room.
Just seeing what u chaps would give these....
code 1
- No main earth bond on water - obviously
- shower pull cord in zone 2
code 2
- supply to garage 'taped' onto catinery wire
- outer sheath of twin and earth has worn away exposing inner cores which are still protected ?
cheers Sy :)

Just doing last minute revision for the final practical (i.e. Periodic Inspection/Fault Finding) on the 2330 L3 (Tue 22nd ) & I've just stumbled across something that may come up, but I'm not sure how to classify it.
If there is a bridge made on a ring final (i.e. a ring...
