I bought an MCS starter kit for my MCS assessment from Segen. All is installer and working OK - or so I thought. I recall reading seeing a previous thread on here over the weekend about the correct colour to use for DC cable. My starter pack from Segen included 100 meters of 4mm double...

I'm try to ascertain when some wiring was carried out in my house.
The cable is grey (not the really old stuff) and I thought from browsing that cable changed from white to grey in April 2004, yet I think the wiring work was done between 2000&2002.
Anyone know if you could buy grey cable...
Hi Folks! Firstly Happy New Year! Secondly I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong forum as I am relatively new to posting on here. Anyway, my question is.....

Don't know where it goes to (magnetic contact we think) but the Customer is happy to have that cable disabled. There are four wires - do I simply wrap all four together so the rest of the alarm can be switched on ?

Can anyone explain to me why we have different colour earth clamps?
I know that red is for dry environments, blue for damp/corrosive and green same as blue but for larger diameter earth wires.
Why can't we use a single colour for all environments, the clamps appear to me to be made the same?
All the wiring diagrams for heating systems I've noticed aren't in colour so I thought I'd have a go at doing my own. Go easy, its not perfect but I wanted to see what you guys thought.
Its really for a new install as its all new colours and ive deleted the CPC's for clarity.
Do you guys agree...
A client of mine has asked me to correct any problems with a retail property that has recently undergone a fixed wiring test. One of the problems highlighted was "no warning of colour changes to two different versions of BS7671".
I found this a little odd as the building was being built in...
Yo guys,
I'm pretty far in the 'competition' to win one of the 100 apprenticeships going with the ESB (Irish electricity supplier) and have a few worries at this stage, I really don't want to diagnose myself! I'm aware that I will have to do a medical if I got through the interview stage, which...
Hi all, I generally only work domestically, but a friend has taken on a hairdressing salon and asked me to install some strip lighting. He's not been too specific but says he needs 'white' light at work level. The light from the existing halogens is too warm. Thing is, their staff need to get...

Hey guys. Just wondering what LED downlighter products you have used/come across in the past and what you thought of them with regard to price/light output/dimming capabilities?
OK, basic schoolboy question!!!!!!
I am used to just opening up a main fuse carrier to determine the fuse rating.
If this is not possible I will go by the stated rating labled on the carier. (often wrong anyway)
I have quoted to instal a power shower in a flat with storage heaters...
I have seen several cut out fuse holders that are coloured RED. Does this indicate the rating of the enclosed fuse. In all cases there installations are approx 30 years old wiht TN-C-S earthing arrangement. I am assuming that they are BS1361 Type II but sort of removing them I can not tell what...

Hi, just wondering whether anyone here knows how these things work.
They are meant for outside decking etc but I'm having to install them in a bathroom. I need to cut off the large T connectors that come with them and connector block the cables, in order to feed them through the wall...
