For domestic extractor fans with timer overrun, is there a standard or regulation for which colour of three core cable to use for live, switched live and neutral? I've seen variations:
BROWN - LIVE
GREY - SWITCHED LIVE (Sleeved BROWN)
BLACK - NEUTRAL (Sleeved BLUE)
BROWN - LIVE
GREY...
Just taken delivery of Practical Guide to Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations by Christopher Kitcher and must say its a superb book.
I have loosened off two, two way light switches to wall paper and noticed that on both only the Black switched live had a piece of insulating tape wrapped around which had partly come off, the Blue and Yellow have no tape attached, is it ok to just replace the tape on the Black switched live or...
So guys what colours go best together? Currently looking at blue writing on blue back ground for vans and blue on black for the shirts (black t shirts). Had thought about black vans but not sure they would stand out anymore and prob cost more and harder to find than a white van.
I want to stay...
When you are using 3 phase colours for live neutral and earth, should you use black or grey as neutral, I usually use black as it was the old neutral colour. I work self employed for various different companies and some say you should NEVER use black as neutral, others say only use black. I...

Hi, with regard's to the new harmonised colours, am I correct in believing that old cables with the old colours can no longer be used, even if they are wrapped with the correct colour insulating tape to identify the conductors. I've seen this practice taking place but i'm certain this is no...

Hi all,
I have a new 17th edition spec CU to install, replacing a BS3036 fused box. As there is no floor up or re-wiring allowed (unless there is a horror story from the PIR (being performed first), I may have to use the existing circuit conductors. My question is on the extension of these...
Hi all,
I have just got given a hot tub which i am installing. A friend of mine has put in all of the SWA to the area into a termination box and ran this all the way to a new 32 amp breaker within the CU. This all happened prior to the hot tub getting delivered and while i was sorting out...

would this be a minor works cert or an...
I have acquired a fairly large amount of old colours T&E, all brand new rolls. I am considering what to do with it. I believe it can still be used if you sleeve brown and blue, is this correct? Seems a bit rough though somehow.
I have also considered just scrapping it, but don't think I can...
