I have a Cooker/crabtree switch but the cooker switch doesn't work? I currently have a gas cooker and it is currently on the "crabtree" switch but I'm looking into getting an electric cooker but I need to resolve this cooker switch problem first. I've replaced the switch with a new one but the...
I am preparing for new kitchen and have a new 16amp built in single oven to replace the existing freestanding double oven.
The existing oven is hard wired -this enters wall in a blanked off fitting-which i assume runs up to the Cooker Socket which has an on off switch and a plug socket too...
Hello, I installed an led bedroom ceiling light and it worked ok for several weeks until i changed a bulb and now all the lights in the house don't work, and also the cooker doesn't turn on. None of the fuses have been tripped in the main fuse box. The other plug sockets in the house are working...
Regs wise , does a oven have to be a dedicated circuit? Job tonight had a spur feeding garage ( 2 lights and socket ) which was fed in 6mm from cooker circuit. Obviously isn’t good practice but would it be a C3 due to not been dangerous? Landlord is cheapskate and won’t pay for new feed for garage.
Hi everyone, so ive got a new oven to install this one is rated at 16 amps, old one was 13 amps on a plug and socket to ring main. My question is can i install a 32amp double pole switch on the ring main then feed 4mm flex to the oven? Is there anything in the regs that prevents this? Thanks for...

Hi, I am new to the forum, and a DIYer. For a couple of weeks our cooker circuit has been tripping the RCD in the Breaker dedicated to this circuit at the CU. The cooker is a Falcon 90cm induction hob unit, it is installed with a fused dipole isolation switch. The tripping has always happened...
Hi All
Just looking for a 2nd opinion on cable sizing / breaker for a old cooker.
The customer has had a 'Cooker Engineer' out to advise that the cooker needs to be wired in 16mm cable to a cooker switch which is currently unused.
The current setup is a 2.5mm HR flex on a plug top with a 13...
A friend has just called as his daughter in Belfast (many, many, many miles from me!) has just lost all power after water fell into the cooker/hob.
I straight away thought it has to be a main RCD somewhere, but I cannot see one in the pictures they have sent and they don't 'think' there is one...

Hi All,
I came across a double socket wired from a cooker circuit and from memory this was noted as acceptable back in the 16th ed, but Ive searched the 18th ed cover to cover and unable to find anything that directly advises against this. What are the thoughts chaps ?
Hi all,
I've just brought a brand new electric cooker to replace my old electric cooker. It works fine, I can cook for as long as I want with no problems at all until about 10 minutes or so after I turn it off.
This applies to both ovens and the grill.
It seems related to the fan/s as it...
Hello all, thanks for checking out this post.
I’m just after a bit advice today. I’ve got a very limited knowledge of electrical installation from a couple of C&G courses I completed after leaving school. I didn’t pursue that career and it’s been a good 7 years so I think we can write that...
hi. i know what sockets most be at least 300mm from the cooker. but if socket is removed and blank plate installed, does it still need to be 300 mm away form the cooker?
Client with a 50s house that has apparently always been like this wants to change their self standing gas cooker, and obviously fitters are not going to currently.
Any gas experts who can qualify exactly what the regulations say, as there seems to be some variety in the way it's described...
I'm looking at getting an induction hob fitted into a kitchen island, where would he the best place to put a cooker switch for this. Is there any regulations stating what distance away the switch can be as it's not really possible to put on the island itself.
