I am in search of a regulations compliant electrical wire that is used in power cables and kettle leads with the appropriate colour coding i.e. green-yellow, brown and red.
The only caveat is that I need a flat version of this wire and not the round one.
Can anyone tell me where I can source...
Hello People - I have come across a cable type that I have not really seen before. It is a solid core flexible cable (but its not like flex). It's very malleable and holds its form when you bend it, it is a power cable. The cable code I have received is NHXMH cable. Question: Are there any...
Went to a flat recently where the cable is run through metal conduit to metal back boxes on a TN-S system. Built in the 60's the flats have aluminium strand cable that is sheathed by a braided woven material (vic cable?) and although old is serviceable. The matal conduit is earthed back to the...
Hello fellow sparks, how are we ?
I am slightly embarrassed about asking this but here goes,
I have never realy understood why you need a 3rd core when wiring smokes, live, neutal and earth i get, but why do you need a switch wire exactly,
what is its job ?
When supplying an item of double insulated equipment, (in this case an extract fan). Is it acceptable to use a two core cable i.e. no cpc?
Or is the earth still required in order to protect the cable run?
Hi Everyone
Don't often get involved in wiring up central heating! I have been asked to install new Honeywell ST9400c to replace ST7100 on a Y plan (Mid-position valve). The new programmer requires a 5 / 6 core flex.
I can get 5 core every where, but I feel over sleeving the earth is bad...
untill now i have somehow managed to get by by getting somebody else on the job to core out holes, or i've borowed a core drill, but it looks like i'm gonna actually have to buy one now!
2 options here, i know someone who just uses a big sds max drill for this, and i know someone with a proper...
OK, got a call from a plumber mate about 2 hours ago as he'd cut some cables with his circular saw. In fact he'd cut 3 cables - one 2.5mm T&E, one 3 core & earth - both fixed quickly with the Ashley MF boxes.
The 3rd cable is 5 core, and it looks like 0.75mm core from the central heating...
Hi,
I have a technical query in regards colour sleeving of conductors in a multicore cable. Take a 5 core 2.5sqmm XLPE SWA cable with all white conductor insulation. I want to use this cable for lighting circuits in an industrial installation, can I sleeve the cores to they’re respective phase...
Doing a re-wire for a customer who's had their kitchen redone recently and told me the electrics are fine.when I checked, they've all been wired using 1.0mm 3 core flex then sealed underneath tiles.I can't remove the tiles or pull through new cables. Is it permissable to leave it connected like...
hey,
ive been asked to work out a cable size for someone and not sure on the sizing for the amps. the information received is that its to be armoured, 4 core and the distance is 175m and needs to carry 400amps. is there a cable big enough or will they have to run two in parallel.
thanks
Question for any of you guys that do a fair bit of core drilling-
Do you drill with hammer action on or off ? I've got a decent enough drill ( makita 8406c 1400w)
Ive found I get better results on hammer but dont want to damage the drill ... Thoughts?
Cheers
im selling my core set only used the 117mm core too drill two holes less then a month old over £200 in maidstone plumbing.
Ill take £150 ono i will post at buyers expense
Hi Guys
I need to add a 3A FCU to 3 core and earth cable for a timed extraction fan (prior to the TP switch), how is this achieved with only L N and E connections on the FCU?
Regards

Quick question. I was adding a 2 way switch to a lighting circuit and discovered a T&E where only one wire was used. he second had just been cut off and not used. I always connect unused cores to the CPC and sleeve green/yellow. Is this common practice or just me?
