    hello im struggling to get my head around potential difference,i understand about bonding but when it comes to say birds on a wire or not getting a shock if your not grounded confuses me. how does the current know we are not grounded and not conduct through us or a bird as normal ?

    Why the difference in size of Main earth required for a TT compared to TNC-S?

    I am away from the regs book (but who needs it anyhow Lucien!:D) but I think the minimum size for the Main earth conductor for a TT is 2.5mm or perhaps 4mm as opposed to the minimum for a TNC-S being 16mm for new builds. It is very likely that a TNC-S will have a greater PFC ( compared to a TT)...

    Motor difference - 230v TP or 400v TP.

    I'm building a new head for a milling machine using a three phase motor and VFD. VFD's seem to be much cheaper for 230v rather than 400v, is there any disadvantage to running a motor at 230v TP than 400v TP? I have a 400v three phase supply. Thanks,
