So we all know that the regs say that a TT systems Ze should be below 200 Ohms as anything above could be unstable.
My question is when installing an earth rod throws up results higher than 200 ohms, say 300 or 400 ohms, what is the point really in installing secondary/tertiary earth rods?
I...
Please be gentle...
...now I installed my first earth rod on saturday! I was expecting a really high Ze as up to 200ohms is allowed by BS7671. My Ze was 0.34. Does this seem odd to anyone that has done one/many before?
Good afternoon everyone, I'm just looking for a little friendly advice if I may.
I have been to a property to price up installing an Extractor fan (via lighting circuit in Bathroom) and a FCU for a combi boiler.
Before work was due to commence I noticed that the Main Earth was completely...
hi
just been to a house in Rhyl. the occupants were getting shocks from the sink.
Its TT and i found out it had just been rewired.
there was no connection to earth, no rod and no equipotential bonding!!!
We fitted a rod and bonded everything. i got a Ze of 25.1 ohms after we did the work.
im...
Guys
Got a 55KVA genny on a job with an earth rod situated nearby.
Does the earth electrode reistance have to be <21ohms, the same as a DNO supply transformer or is that a different set of rules?
I know the rod provides a zero reference for the star point neutral connection, but apart from...
Hi guys. I've been reading a few posts about earth rods. What's the preferred way to join them, and also when installing a few of them what is the preferred way to link them? I've read some posts that says when installing them next to each other you should spread them apart the same distance as...

Gents,
Please can I seek the opinion of those experienced in positioning earthing rods (this is my first time!!!)
I am about to start a full rewire on an old mid terraced house, which is currently unoccupied. The existing electrics are ancient, so everything has to be renewed.

Hello people. This week I've got to install a rod at a property where the gas is being used as the main earth. I've installed them before for temporary generators etc but never done a permanent one. I'd be grateful if someone with more experience could help.
The house is surrounded by concrete...
1st question:
Had to install a earth Rod in rural area today because the Ze on the current TN-S system was too high.
All the circuits are brand new, but for some reason a circuit with LED Haler downslight on seem to trip when the systems earth is changed to the earth rod. The Ze of the system is...
is it ok and within the regulations to earht a gas meter by using a earth rod and taking a 10mm earth from the rod beside the meter to the pipe?
(on a PME)
Cutting a long story short, I may need to install a earth rod soon at a domestic property but have never installed one before, I am more than happy to carry it out, I know about the regs side of things, but I would like some pointers as to what to look out for how to do it and any surveys that...
Dear All,
What are the 'tricks' to a good earth rod impedance?
If I'm getting 30-40 ohms am I doing OK?
Am I flogging a dead horse trying to get it any lower?
I know the regs recommend under 200 ohms but what's the general concensus on what constitutes a good reading?
Can anyone explain to me, if a 17th Edition Dual 30mA RCD board, is installed, with an earth rod (TT installation), why there is a need for a 100mA RCD to protect the whole installation?
Its something that l can't quite get my head round and would like someone to make things a little clearer...
Hi,
Just had a friend tell me his electrician (who messed up his DB change at his house recently as detailed in another thread) as now told him he needs to install an earth spake next to his garage that has a small 2way DB in it.
What are the requirments for adding an additional earth stake...
Afternoon Chaps,

Have seen a post on this ages ago, but cant seem to find it ? (Did think I originally posted it?)
Just after any tips / advice on where / how best to place the rod...
Hi all
follow up to previous thread - got a genny supplying 227v across L/N, 110v across L/E & N/E. spoke to engineer who recently rewound it, says those readings are correct given the way that its wound.
So when I come to connect a temporary electric boiler so that under floor heating can get...
Had to fit 2 earth rods to TT 2 adjacent buildings.
The only available soft ground was a approx 3 foot gap between the two buildings.
I have spaced the rods a good distance from each other, but could someone point me in the direction of the regs to do with spacing between the rods for use in my...
