3 core Swa feeding ip rated plastic sockets outdoors.
He 3rd core of the Swa has been used as a cpc but the armour is not connected to earth; but has been made off with metal banjos. Would this warrant a C2 or C3? I'm assuming as the armour isn't extraneous a C3? ?
Thoughts please ...
hello all in my considerable yrs ive never come across a building earthed via trunking all circuits lights power earth taken back to nearest trunking and terminated no earths at board even main earths for 5x different panels back to trunking is this legal in todays regs ?
Recently qualified and started working for a company that don't put a fly lead from socket outlets to back boxes and ceiling roses to conduit boxes etc. The engineer says you don't need them because the circuit has its own CPC and the conduit isn't being used as an earth.
My understanding was...
I was asked earlier this week to look at a solar system on an office/warehouse that had stopped working (not my install). The strings all come into a Fronius DC box on the roof. When I opened it up it was pretty clear why the system had stopped producing:
I'm looking for opinions on what may...
Hi Guys,
I need to replace my halogen security light fitting with one that is LED and also comes with PIR.
As this is a swap, am i allowed to do this myself based on current regulations?
If so can you recommend a good security light fitting with PIR? I have looked at a few online and went on...
Hi,
I have just purchased a 16th Edition and a 15th Edition BS7671 book both in excellent condition.
I am looking for a 14th and 13th edition if anyone has one they don't want.
No particular reason that I want them other than to look in and to have sitting on the shelf as it would be a nice...
Hi All,
Just writing up an EICR I did today, got a long garden with SWA feeding shed at bottom, armoured not earthed (code 2) but I also noticed for part of it's run, near the veg patch, the SWA is lying across the ground. It doesn't meet 522.8.10 so I'm guessing code 2 and a recommendation...
Inspired from the "show us your installs" thread, Trev has come up with a great idea..... Lets find the faults.
Here is the first one:-
Loads of faults in that picture! How many can you see?
BTW yes that is SWA at the bottom lol.
hi all electric shock from old brick floor layed on soil, to earthed out kitchen sink 0.68ohms earth loop reading.
in a 400 year old farm house connected on p.m.e.
its been happening for a month (since rain)
any ideas why and how to over come?
ta kipper,
Excuse my ignorance on this, never had to test a RFC when the conduit was being used as the CPC.
Obviously can't do the usual test for continuity so can't tick that box on the form, will just note that it's an earthed conduit set up.
Where I get more confused is the R1+R2 measurement seeing as...
Hi all, as has frequently been pointed out the customer is always right!!!! The lighting is on the old twin (no earth) and according to customer I can just attach some new cable to this for his new lights he wants putting up in different locations. In my eyes morally and professionally wrong as...
Does the metal support framework of a mezzanine floor require bonding to earth. The electrical installation trunking is fixed to the underside of the framework,so in effect it is earthed already via the network of trunking and metal conduit fixed to it(any advice)
How many things can you find in this picture? Its a 6mm T&E leaving the house to fed a garage via a 2.5mm SWA. I gave up counting at 11 faults, can you list them?
OK I'll give you the first two because its not very clear in the pic.
Missing cable support (clips) on both the 2.5mm and the SWA.

Apparently its terrible.
Check out the reviews they are pretty funny........im quite tempted to buy it just to see what they are on about lol
I found this fuse board at work. The main earth appears to be clamped to the side of it then run down to the main earth terminal, not sure why this has been done or if it is common as Im fairly new to the game. If anyone could help that would be great.
Meter on internal garage wall, and CU just the other side internal to the house.
Currently there is no mechanical protection on the ex. tails where they go straight through the wall.
I need to fit replacement tails. Can I safely assume it's OK and normal provided that I keep them in zone where...
Went to a flat recently where the cable is run through metal conduit to metal back boxes on a TN-S system. Built in the 60's the flats have aluminium strand cable that is sheathed by a braided woven material (vic cable?) and although old is serviceable. The matal conduit is earthed back to the...
Hi,
Just been to a block of flats - 1920's - testing the landlords lighting (that's all that there is communal area run off a timer, no switches for users).
There's no earthing to the lights - although they're all out of reach - but I got excellent Zs reading as I guess all the earthing is...
