I found this fuse board at work. The main earth appears to be clamped to the side of it then run down to the main earth terminal, not sure why this has been done or if it is common as Im fairly new to the game. If anyone could help that would be great.
Meter on internal garage wall, and CU just the other side internal to the house.
Currently there is no mechanical protection on the ex. tails where they go straight through the wall.
I need to fit replacement tails. Can I safely assume it's OK and normal provided that I keep them in zone where...
Went to a flat recently where the cable is run through metal conduit to metal back boxes on a TN-S system. Built in the 60's the flats have aluminium strand cable that is sheathed by a braided woven material (vic cable?) and although old is serviceable. The matal conduit is earthed back to the...

Hi,
Just been to a block of flats - 1920's - testing the landlords lighting (that's all that there is communal area run off a timer, no switches for users).
There's no earthing to the lights - although they're all out of reach - but I got excellent Zs reading as I guess all the earthing is...

Please be gentle with me it's been a long day.
In my previous life I was an electrician, suppose I still am but not practicing installation work.
So I am trying to get up to speed with some modern practices, mainly Earth Loop Impedence.
In my daily work I constantly use a megger for safety...

hi everyone first message on here, im sure it is simple to mst people,i need to know if the outer metal strands on an armoured cable MUST be earthed. it is from the board to a garage at the bottom of the garden and the earth is run in the black cable, neutral in grey and live in brown or red...
hi there
may need to bury some meter tails in wall (25mm 16mm earth), not my usual practice, now they will not be below 50mm so they will need earthed mechanical protection. can any one advise as whats best to use for mechanical protection and the size of the earth cable required for earthing...
I've got to route some 4mm TnE cable out the middle of an internal wall and up to a safe zone.
For the part of that route which is not in a safe zone I'm looking to provide mechanical protection (reg 522.6.6) through earthed armouring (something like...

Hi,
I have a 3 core 2.5mm SWA cable connecting the main CU to the CU in the garage (30 ft away - detached). The garage’s CU has 100A main switch with 2x16a & 1x6a MCB’s for two radials and a light circuit.
My question is, the cable already has an earth core but do I still have to terminate it...

Want the Load cable below surface to drop down to below work surface within zone BUT then end up back behind fitted cooker not the cabinet below. As subject, what do you guys do?
Would you do as I do for eg...
Hi all got a look at a friends db in his old flat at first it appeared to have no earths at all but I wonder if it is using the conduit as earth. No green/yellow in board or circuits.
Is there any way of identifying this.
thanks.

How do you do an earth bond test for these? I have re read the IEE code of practice on this but I can't find an answer apart form: "...can give misleading results"
For example a class 1, totally plastic vacuum cleaner, at least on the outside (it has tiny metal screws not screwed into earthed...

Must underfloor heating always have an earth?
I was under the impression that it always needed an earth, but a builder I sometimes do work for has already put it down and there are only two wires and no earth at all.I know that normally the earth is the metal sheathing that comes with the...

My business partner thinks this is to Bond every metal leg of the raised floor? Any body have previous experience of this, seem very strange, I've worked maintenance in data ctrs before and...
