Hi there I work in a shopping centre and the tills are supplied by a chrome pole ( non standard ) that comes from a metal burgess ceiling . Inside the pole is a 2.5mm 3 core flex and a CAT6 cable (non screened ) that supplies the till . This pole does not have any earth . I’m now being asked to...
Hi all
I am working at a golf driving range installing some new circuits for a Trackman golf radar system.
The structure around the driving range bays is all exposed steelwork.
There are already lighting circuits installed in the roof area with cables clipped to the steelwork.
I have tested the...
Hi guys,is it ok to borrow earth from socket to light switch which is unearthed. It is all about changing plastic switch to metal one.The socket is underneath and probably the easiest way to do this if you do not want to rewire the whole circuit.Thank you in advance for all the answers.
Been asked to run a supply for a hot tub, looking at the spec on it online. Comes on a plug top but it also says you need to run a separate earth out to it, anyone else ever had this? Surely the earth will come from the plug top. Seems a bit overkill
I recently installed about 10 (user supplied) Trendi Switch 2-gang sockets. When tested with a socket tester, 4 of them reported an earth fault on just one side only. I told the customer to take them back, which he did. However, when he replaced one of them with a new item, he got the same...
I have seen a few metal back boxes that have no earth terminal lug. Do the regs state the metal back box must have an earth wire to it? The earth on the socket/FCU is earthed to the backbox via the socket faceplate securing screws.
I know main bonding to water and gas need to be 0.05 ohms
But what about the main earthing conductor?
Does it have a maximum resistance value from MET to the CU?
A quick search for earth tape didn't come up with much, though this thread was of interest.
I'll start by mentioning that I've led a sheltered life and only ever dealt with PME (TN-C-S) so never had to deal with earth rods.
At our church, we've had an inspection of the lightning protection...
Evening all,
I have recently installed a pond and run the pump back to a socket in the utility room (three pin plug).
However, I have just got a small shock from the water in the pond! I turned off the socket it’s plugged into but can still detect a voltage in the water. I then turned off the...
Hi everyone,
This might be a silly question but I have been asked to look at job where they would like a new garage supply, its a old property with the re-wireable fuse board but previously someone has tapped off the meter to an additional RCD unit which was used for a shower (no longer...
I realise this overlaps with the Earth Rod install post a little, but I am attempting to plan part one of an upgrade. Currently I am mostly confident I have TNCS supply (there is a query with the DNO to confirm) but I am a little confused by the additional strap to the lead sheaf in a TNS kind...
I know the subject of transporting pme from a house to an out building has been discussed many times.
This question is the DNO is only providing a single phase no earth TT supply which is fine. Want to run a sub main with swa to an out building approx 30m away. Would you only connect the the...
The situation is:
Power is needed inside a greenhouse to power a specialized greenhouse heater, a timed motorized window opener and a light. The lights can be double insulated but the heater and windows device are both class 1.
The greenhouse has a metal frame that is in good contact with...
I would appreciate peoples thoughts on fixing this earthing setup to correctly separate PME & TT:
Setup: Workshop at the bottom of a long garden connected to supply via 3 core armoured cable. Earth rod fitted at workshop, but the earth has also been connected to the PME from the supply & the...
Hi, first time poster. I’ve tried looking everywhere for a solution to this, so hopefully someone can help me. I’m trying to wire my led bathroom mirror, but there are only positions for live and neutral but none for earth (the supply is a typical cable from the wall with live, neutral and...
Hi everyone, wonder if someone could help me out here, am I right in thinking this earthing arrangement is a TN-C-S ?
I am just a bit confused by the earthing block on the side.. I am newly qualified domestic installer so just making sure it's what I think it is.
Just double checking please - in situations where the main earthing conductor csa is calculated, and in a TNS installation, the 50% bonding conductor csa rule still applies to your final calculated and rounded up earthing conductor size? (As opposed to the tabulated size)
I'm doing remedials and...
Hi All
Sorry for the lengthy first post and use of any non-standard terminology. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to electronics, hopefully I've done enough due diligence so I'm not asking anything too silly lol ?
I've bought a Grounding mat that plugs into the mains (earth wire only)...
Hi everyone, I live well off grid in Wales and am presently renovating a small property. As part of that renovation I have had a full off grid solar system professionally fitted coupled with a generator back up.
The inverter charger has a neutral earth link as does the generator. The inverter...
