Sorry guys. Probably sick of me by now got exam tmrw and checked old posts and books but still bit confused with allowable max electrode values. Does max 200 ohms still apply if RCD is inplace? If so why do we even have a max resistance for rcd disconnection if these values are so much more than...
In "Advanced Electrical Installation Work" by Trevor Linsley, he says that an earth electrode rod that is 1m deep will typically have a resistance of between 10 and 200 ohms. Given that fault currents can supposedly, momentarily, be in the order of 1000's of amps, this makes me scratch my head...
Hi,
How to test an earth electrode resistance for Lightning Protection System in the middle of large concrete pad? I cannot not find a soft ground for spikes to drive in for testing. Is there any other ways of measuring the earth electrode resistance value?
Thanks
Laxi
Hi guys,
im doing revision for 2394 and got a question on getting the average ohms value for an earth electrode test.
the readings obtained were 179,181 and 185ohms and they asked for the average.
i have checked GN3 but it ain't clear.
can anyone give me a method of how to work this out.
cheers.
Hi All
New to the forum. I need some help -I have been asked by my employer to carry out an inspection and certificate an existing LPS. I have as fitted drawings and the original test certificate.
My problems are 1) Never carried out one of these tests, 2) only 50% of the electrodes are...
Hi guys Im little confused I need yours hints...
Pitch supply circuits TT system How method use to determine earth electrode resistance??
Method 1(earth electrode tester with three spikes) Im right??
Earth Electrode Resistance Testing 2395
Hey guys, I'm up for my 2395 soon, although I understand how each of the three methods is carried out I can not seem to find anywhere that tells me why one method would be used over another?
some of my sample paper answers are till use test method one...
I have been asked to do some maintenance for a small co-operative horticulture set-up. They operate on a shoe-string, and have a couple of hectares of land in a low-lying flat area.
The DNO has given them a PMR system with a service head and meter in nearby woodland. (Ze 0.23). I find a 30mA...
I did some work today (added a new circuit) to a TT where earth electrode/Ra (bonding disconnected) was 198 Ohms. Bit close to limit where advice is to "investigate".
Interestingly the figure I got is precisely the same as that measured in 2010 by previous electrician, so it does appear to...
A customer of mine has two installations (self contained barn coversions) connected to the same earth electrode.
Each consumer unit has a 16mm cable connected to the same rod. I cant help thinking this is poor practice, but what regs does it break, if any?
Anybody taking the 2394/95 Tuesday and Wednesday? if so where have you concentrated your revision? I've tried to cover over the whole spectrum but feel that I maybe glossing over some points. I do know that a banker question(so ive been told) will be to explain with the aid of a diagram the...
I have been tasked with carrying out some earth electrode and LPS testing using the fall of potential method but to do this I need to know the length of the rod. How do I work this out if I don't know the length?
hi guys.
can anyone please post or point me in the right direction of a model answer for earth electrode testing ? i have lost my previous paper with the model answer on (idiot). i obviously have GN3 to hand but i would prefer to study a model answer.
cheers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:icon14:
question probably how would you test resistance of electrode on a tt system on a stand by generator.
firstly ask permission and notify the customer that the standby generator will be locked off thus premisses will be with out a back up power supply.
generator isolated lock it off and retain...
Hi,
I am in my last year of City and guilds c2330 Level 3, busy doing some test papers. Stuck on a question stating show a simple diagram how the resistance of an earth electrode could be measured using an ELI Tester.
Never done this before, looked every where for this, What is an ELI tester and...
Hi all
Can you tell me if there is a cheap and easy way of testing an earth electrode, without the expense (which I can't afford yet!!!) of buying a dedicated tester?
This is one person's recommendation, tell me what you think:
"Anyone with a bit of electrical common sense, knowledge of...
Would it be permissible under bs7671 to use two earth rods bonded together, in order to make one?
I have read the section by Lenny on Earth Electrode resistances, and note the diagram where multiple rods are used. (1.2m spacing for two rods).
As l am pretty much An Earth Rod Virgin at mo, id...
just trying to understand this regulation as to why the shell needs to be bonded to the neutral as well as earthing conductor for a electrode water heater
(554.17 where the the supply to am electrode water heater or electrode boiler is single phase and one electrode is connected to a neutral...
Anyone tell me if there's a regulation that says water heater electrodes have to be on their own dedicated circuit?? Ive thought this for years but now cant see the reg. Looked all through chapter 554 cant see it.
