    Sup bonding

just carried out and EICR on a grubby flat. One defect was lack of bonding in the bathroom without RCD protection. I don't want to change the DB to RCD everything. everything is wired in conduit, would I be correct in saying all I need to do is link a 4mm bond from the conduit to all the...

    Steel Conduit

Hi Just got a quick question. I install CCTV systems and want to start using steel conduit instead of PVC. Do I need to ground the conduit if it will only have CAT6 network cable inside. Thanks

Bonding of drain cover in tanked basement

Doing some work on a building with a tanked basement. In one corner there is a drain cover that is an extraneous conductive part so I need to attach a bonding conductor. I was thinking of something I could bolt on to the rim (about 5cm wide) that wouldn't interfere with taking the cover off...

    Extraneous Conductive-part

I've had my work assessed which has raised a question about Extraneous-conductive-part. I just want to be sure I fully understand this. BS7671 Part 2 defines it as; A conductive part liable to introduce a potential, generally Earthed potential, and not forming part of the electrical...

High Security Metal Doors - Extraneous part?

Are metal doors considered an extraneous metal part to a building, never seen any bonded? i.e painted but with a metal handle?

    Extraneous Conductive Parts in Bathroom

Currently doing a kitchen refurbishment. When doing the quote, peering under the kitchen sink, noticed bonding to water was 4mm, and same for gas. Property has a TNC-S supply, and had replacement CU in 2010 (no certs available). Said to customer bonding should be upgraded to 10mm. Easy cable...

Using extraneous metal as bonding conductor

Hi, Scenario, Oil service to a church boiler is at the furthest point to the distribution board. Rather than run a separate bonding conductor to the oil service I've decided to bond the 3" cast iron heating pipework local to the DB then take a fly lead at the boiler from the CH pipework to...

Why TT on Temp Building Supply?

Okay, I know you have to use TT on a temporary building supply but cannot understand why? If the supplier is able to supply a TNCS why is this not preferable to a TT?

    Outdoor Building Power

It's been a while since doing any form of installation so I thought I may ask here for clarification especially with new regs...... Detached shed/building approx. 50m from house CU. Need to run 13A sockets and lights in it. TN-CS/TNS supply Is it best to... A) Take from MCB, then SWA down to...

    Confirmation on testing procedure

Hi guys another q I would like to clear up, when testing to confirm a pipe is extraneous in an existing install I use the equation 230/0.01 =23000ohms - 1000ohms= 22000ohms. when carrying out the test I test from the earth block to the pipe in question. just looking to confirm as I have just...

    Bonding of Extraneous pergola frame

Need a bit of advice to clear up some uncertainty. We have a TN-S earthing system supply at the house. Main gas and water are bonded using 10mm cable. Supply running to shed at bottom of garden is 3 core 6mm using house earthing system protected at the house by 32a mcb with RCD metal board in...

    EICR remedial

Just done an EICR on an outbuilding that is habitable (kitchen/wetroom etc). Supply is taken from henly block in the meter cupboard, via 2 core SWA to building. At building SWA is glanded into a metal box but the box (earth) is not connected to the plastic consumer unit which sits right next...

    Garage Metalwork

I'm in the middle of putting some lighting and socket outlets in my garage, nothing fancy just a few of each as you'd expect. I've run it in SWA ,which will be buried eventually, from the existing CU in the house on it's own circuit. Earthing arrangement is TT which reads 14.67 ohms, not bad I...

Testing gas pipework for extraneous conductive parts

Just checking before I blow a hole in the wall that using an IR test at 500v is ok on bottled gas pipework. Seems like the sort of thing that in hindsight you'd wonder why you thought it was a good idea. Could disconnect the bottles, but that would seem to make the test pointless.

    extraneous conductive parts

Recieved my copy of NICEIC/Elecsa 'Connections' magazine and notice they are using a different calculation in determining if a metal part is extraneous or not. Many on here have been using the 22Kohm figure, when using an insulation test between MET and metal part. Now Certsure are using the...

    EICR Code

Would a C3 be adequate for a main protective bonding conductor connection to water not readily accessible? Connection is present (along with tag) but is under floor boards. Took me ages to trace it back. Also I can not verify the location of the gas bonding connection. What code?

    Extraneous and bonding etc

Hi, something that cropped up yesterday on my assessment was that I'd done a load of work on a house and new CU etc. the old boiler had been taken out and a new one fitted but the gas supply had not been put into the new boiler. the old gas pipe was left where the old boiler was in a...
