Does anyone perform a prospective short circuit and, where no RCD / RCCBO, a prospective Fault Current test on the end of circuits on inspection and tests?
I get we do ZS, but how do we know that the CPC or Line conductors are man enough for fault currents of X duration?
S2K2 => I2 T?

Went to look at this shower today. Customer says it’s not heating up.
Tried everything, and I can’t find the problem......
Can anyone suggest what could be wrong??
??????????
Had you going there, didn’t I.
elderly customers very happy with me going out on a Saturday to replace this...
So customer reporting she plugged in a faulty LED light and it tripped both upstairs and downstairs lighting MCBs indicating that the circuits are connected (the board has no RCDs - yet). Before I go and do a CU change to RCBOs I need to identify the source of this fault. I'm interested to hear...
Hello, I’ve just been to a job and their RCD has it’s moments and trips throughout the day but doesn’t on other days. When I was there I tested all appliances and put everything on but couldn’t get it to trip. Very weird.
I noticed the test button on the RCD wasn’t working AND was getting...
Greetings All:
I am new to this forum and hope I am in the correct sub-group.
We are nearly completed with our new home construction...just a couple weeks from moving in. The 200Amp service panel has 4, sometimes 5 arc fault breakers that repeatedly trip at random times.
There are NO...
I'm having a very strange issue with some sockets. They're in my garage and are running from a 13amp switched fused spur off a 30amp radial circuit.
There are 4 double sockets and appeared to be working fine. Then suddenly they stopped, no breaker went on the consumer unit so I assumed the fuse...
Guys / Girls.
How do you tackle an intermittant fault that only occurs once or twice every few weeks. What is the sequence you would use to identify and locate the issue.
Well I ventured out into the kungflu today and one of the other items picked up was Professional Electrician for December. So I’m having a cuppa and reading, as I do. The article on p33 is about Amendment 2 to the 18th Edition. All good so far. Then I read that they are proposing all socket...
Outage of main three phase primary switch box for one of three buildings on commercial site. The building houses around 30 commercial units. Switched back on the main switch, power restored. Except for one unit. All units supplied through the secondary sub switch box. Large MCCB MEM type.

Installed some new floodlights/pir and switches today. All tested fine, however on power up it was evident I had got something wrong. Upon investigation I had the neutral in the switched live of the PIR. Kicked myself but mistakes happen.
Corrected the mistake but still nothing was working as...
Hello everyone.
I'm getting a bit desperate, as my car has been at mechanics 3 times already and nothing really helped.
Here is the problem:
My 2009 Citroen C2 has an electrical/electronic fault which no one can find so far. The car sometimes starts with no issues whatsoever, and sometimes...
New here so sorry if posted in wrong place,
I have installed a new consumer unit as the title says it’s a split load rcd board, anyway to the point one of the rings seems to now have a neutral fault which is taking out one side of the board I have checked all obvious things, touched no...
Qualified in electronics, only did electrical work as a DIY, now retired and enjoying life. Except when the RCD trips for no obvious reason...
Cheers

I am a relative newbie so excuse me if this might be obvious...
I am trying to find a fault with the lighting in one room. Apparently, the light was very dim before the client had disconnected it. There is a 3 core in the light switch which when tested supplies about 150V. There isn't another...
Fault finding. Good to systematically and logically investigate the problem, then the culprit has been staring you in the face...
phone call from new customer- no power.
get there, split rcd board. “It’s that big switch that won’t stay up”, says the woman
Ok, the rcd. Unplugged everything I...
Evening all, after a bit of advise or reference to look towards.
We protect our installations with RCD/RCBOs to protect against earth faults and stop people getting zapped. However with smart homes on the rise, and most houses now having LED lighting, plus USB sockets. The RCD/RCBOs we...
Hi all
can anyone give me the logic why the RCD wouldn’t trip on a neutral/earth fault. Testing a extension where they have added in 5 additional sockets to the upstairs ring had been powered up and nothing tripping with household appliances plugged in and working. Carrying out IR tests to...
During a recent inspection on a 3 phase board I have some MCBs rated at 6KA
And some rated at 10 KA .
The ZE is about 0.04 to 0.05 depending on phase , form my calculations this works out to 9.95 KA ( I can only measure single phase pfc)
On a consumer unit we allow 16KA if its backed up by a...
Hi guys,
Got a Citroen DS3 with a rather strange fault. The tail light brake lights (Left and right) never work with the brake pedal, however the actual bulbs are fine because they light up when the lights are switched on (but the brake light always stay on). Checked the brake switch and it...
