So I have been working on a four storey house, in which the wiring is pretty sound, the sparks who did the last rewire (approx 2004) seems to have loved 4mm T+E, all the sockets are on 4mm radials, with either 16, 20 or 32 amp breakers. The exception is the very top floor sockets, which he did...
My head's wasted having spent two hours trying to trace an interconnection between two ring final circuits. I started nice and methodical and went downhill from there:bigcry::bigcry:....under pressure to get to the next job, I gave up, but am back on Thursday to nail it on the head.
So, how...
Good morning,
I was recently at a job and had a discussion with another Electrician regards a high Zs reading on a ring final circuit.
R1+R2 measured 1.68ohm
Ze 0.18
Tncs
This puts the circuit over the permitted zs. I begun seeking out the issue.
However the other electrican said...
I have to calculate the total consumption for each of the circuits and state the final maximum demand current.
downstairs :2 fittings with 5x 12w lamps,1 fitting with 5 x 12w
1 fitting with 10 x 12w,1 fitting with 1 x 60w,1 fitting with 7 x 20w
2 fitting with 3 x 20w,1 fitting with 4 x 30w and...
I was having a look at my cu the other day and noticed that someone had connected a double socket (socket is situated just below the cu) straight off the mcb, which includes the wiring of the final ring.
I'm unsure if this conforms with regs etc
We do actually use it for the intruder alarm...
Hello All wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem i have with my IR readings.
I recently rewired a house.. took care pulling cables in etc . finished 1st fix, checked cables by looping ring main in connector blocks and doing continuity and IR test . continuity was ok, IR read...
i am only a second year apprentice so please bear this in mind if this question comes across as stupid..
i am currently working on a site where one property (old pub) is being converted into 8 seperate flats, and at the minute we are working on the power distrobution to each individual flat...
Having gone back and forth through the onsite guide and BYB, am I right that with socket outlets in commercial premises it is the same as domestic 2.5mm and 100m2 ring main and 75m2 for a 4mm radial circuit? So application for diversity would be 32amp for first circuit and then 50% of every...
So luckily I am now onto the design module and by chance a friend asks if it is possible to change her LPG gas hob for an electric one, existing oven circuit is fed by 32amp MCB, 6mm T&E normally clipped with no insulation, 15m run.
Existing double oven is 5.5kw full load and the proposed hob...
Hi all,
Can anyone shed any light on some strange really low readings on a ring final circuit I've just 2nd fixed including replacing some legs as the IR was bad in places on old cabling before.
Thought it could be my MFT batteries going and therefore giving possibility of silly results but...
When you do the continuity test on a ring final circuit and you have to connect L1 to N2 and vice versa, this assumes you know which L cable is the incoming or outgoing.
I understand that if you connect L1 to N1 and vice versa the ohm readings rise then fall as you go round the ring circuit...
Hello there everyone, I've dead tested some ring mains on a job recently but unfortunately I didn't do my measured end to ends. The circuits only have two spurs on each.
I have my R1 + R2's, it was wired in 4mm T and E so the earth is obviously 1.5mm.
For example, if one circuit measured...
Testing using a socket tester at the sockets gives me unexpected readings, based on little r calcs,
eg, outside allowed variance
Using the probes on the terminals gives me 'Texbook' readings expected from a new install.
Should I conclude the accessories are dodgy ?
They are DP double gang...
Hello can someone explain to me how a ring final circuit with 4 twin socket outlets work from the fuse board? I mean would you just have a line neutral and earth coming out the fuse board. Linking from sockets in radial back to the fuse board? Just want to know how it works what connections...
Guys non domestic stuff here but is it true that you don't carry out ring final tests on EICR.
Or is it that you don't have to and done do it as a matter of course anyway or do you charge extra for doing stuff not needed.
I'm of the opinion of its not much extra to do it then I'll just do it...
Hi
I'm hoping that someone can help.
I am adapting some circuits which are supplied via an in line ups. At present, the ups supplies a 72 way db and the final circuits are supplied from the DB. This is a laboratory research environment and it is expensive (about £20k a time) when they...
