Here's one for you. In a foster home for naughty boys the client has a requirement to be able to "remove privileges" of TVs/PCs etc when necessary. They seek a means of doing this without having to get staff to use the Distribution Board. Would a DP switch of the correct capacity be the best...
Hello chaps and chapettes,
Continuity of final ring circuit I measured:
L-L = 1.45
E-E = 0.8
but measuring N-N I got 108.8....???!!!!!!
Any ideas..? Or are those readings good in my limited experience and consequently I'm an idiot.

I'm having a bit of a blonde moment, I'm trying to work out the volt drop on a 3 phase Submain, the Submain is to be supplying a 3phase board loaded with rcbo's all single phase loading, I can't for the life of me remember how to do it I think it's working out the single phase vd and multiplying...
Hi

Hi Guys, now here's a strange fault.
I have recently installed a new split MK consumer unit.
All circuits have high IR and the RCDs were tested by a Robin tester from all sockets and oven and lighting circuits etc, all good.
When I switch "off" my garage lighting, which is 3 fluro fittings the...

Everytime i use the brand new iron and ironing machine after a few minutes, the breaker trips off. Its annoying to go to electric panel board turn on everytime. The iron and ironing board machine has 2200 wattts. The ring final circuit breaker got 32amp which is enough to protect the sockets...
Hi,
I am about to refurbish two attached outbuildings for an old colleague as he wants to use them for his music teaching (one room for teaching space and one for parents waiting room). After deciding it would be too expensive to extend his central heating radiator feeds we have settled on...
Hi all,
I'm still learning this stuff so go easy!
I've just carried out a ring final circuit test. Having identified both legs of the ring I began testing between both ends of the line conductor, which has given me an infinite reading on the meter. I also got the same result on the cpc...
Hi, im just writing a message to see if there's anyone or know of anyone that are in need of an extra man? Im in my final year of my apprenticeship, im highly experienced in domestic work and i've done minor commercial work as well, but would relish the chance to do more.

I was talking to one of my friends who just had his NICEIC DI assessment (about five months ago). We got talking about RCD trip times, because he was told that what he believed in (and myself) was wrong?
RCD (30mA) TRIP TIMES (17th Edition Regulation 411.3.2.2. – Table 41.1)
For a...
When testing ring final how do i know incoming and outgoing legs when cross connecting L & N. Will the readings at each socket be considerably different when they should be roughly the same. R1 +Rn/4 at each socket. Cheers
Have justed looked at a job to replace the consumer unit and it appears that both the final ring circuits ( Kitchen and the rest of the Flat ) have Radial CPC's. The flat is wired in multicore Singles and Plastic Conduit , has anyone come across this type of design before. Both "ring circuits"...
Hi I am posting this in the hope that an electrician from Nottingham has a position available for; or would be willing to take on an apprentice electrician. I am 25 years old and have been trying to qualify for years but because of a redundancy my training was cut short. I have now just been...
I have a query,
Im working on some signage that is connected to a PME supply. This is supplied to a leb header by straight concentric 16mm cable and then to and RCD with outgoing circuits to the sign.
Now I have just seen that work by others have been carried out in the form of doubling up on...
Hi,
Doing a EICR, and the usual limitations apply as to no lifting of floor boards ect..... also noted that im going to visually check 2 socket, 2 switches and 2 pendants on relevant circuits.
so my query is, when filling in the 'final circuits' section and 'Termination of cables' on the...
Hi all had a weird one today, actually make it two, tested ringfinal continuity at the board lives were 0.00 and so were neutrals, earths were the same too, not sure why, is it a ring that has been interconnected causing a duff reading??
Secondingly tested another property's ringfinal circuit...

Customer wants new CU and a shed supply. (Let's not get into shed supplies - been doing some homework on this one).
Medium/smallish 4 bed house, has > 100M^2 area, but currently has single ring final, no split.
How to deal with Regs 314 about splitting the load? I'm not trying to spend...
Please could someone enlighten me on how grouping factors apply to ring final circuits run together, e.g. sharing holes through joists and walls, in a domestic situation?
For one RFC run in 2.5mm T&E under first floor boards (ref method B) the cable rating is 23A.
If you group two RFCs...
