I am installing spotlights in the kitchen. The customer bought downlight which (packing)says they are fire rated but I doubt it. What is your opinion on this please. See pictures..
Just saw a vid of someone putting in a CU on unistrut in a domestic property (why, i don't know), and one of the comments said it fails the regs because he used regular red rawl plugs instead of fire rated plugs.
I didn't know this was a thing?
Hi there
I’ve got some spots to install in some shelves being put up. This sounds very straight forward I know but I was only thinking, do they need to be fire rated in the sense the room above is habitable (but obviously this isn’t a ceiling space)?? I know in the ceiling they’d have to be but...

Hi wonder if anyone can help
Can I avoid using very expensive fire rated access panel (and just use non fire rated access panel) if the electrical connections behind the wall access panel are in a fireproof connector (metal box) with fireproof gaskets?
We're doing a refurb of a takeaway restaurant. Client has asked us to re-use existing downlights and provided some additional ones of the same type which aren't fire rated.
We've advised that these should be changed but he doesn't want to as 'they were fine before'.
It's a metal framed suspended...

Good Evening,
I'm going to fit a 4 inch inline extractor fan in the loft above the bathroom. I'm guessing the internal grille has to be fire rated just like a down lighter has to be?
i only ask because the website i bought it off doesn't sell any fire rated internal grilles even though it...
Good evening,
I am just wondering whether or not non fire rated downlights should be a coded issue (c3 as many electricians have told me) or whether this is false. From memory I believe napit code breakers made it a c3 if there was a room above.
P.s I'm still learning and this just seems to...
As in the title.
I need downlights that can be covered in insulation, fire rated and integrated.
Preferably quite shallow as well!
I'm struggling a bit to meet all the above criteria :(.
Cheers guys.
Hi,
I am new in this forum thanks for adding me. I did try to use search option with not much luck.
I work at Heathrow as an electrical guy but have not much domestic experience.

Evening,
Feeling really confused about fire rated downlighters. We need 26 for our extension which is part flat ceiling and part vaulted ceiling. It's a kitchen/diner/family room. Have received opposing advice. Builder says just use Screwfix LAP fixed integral LED downlights. One electrician...
For many years the market for fire rated downlights has been highly confusing with many manufacturers making claims but not always having the technical data to back up these claims.
The NHBC has just launched new guidance to cover the use of fire rated downlights which makes it very clear that...
Hi. Could anyone advise on the types of fixings / clips they are using to comply with: Wiring systems shall be supported such that they will not be liable to premature collapse in the event of a fire’ (clause 521.10.202). If, for example, there were a couple of runs of twin and earth above an...
Doing an EICR today, in a multi occupied house, I was chatting to the landlord advising him to get fire rated downlights in the celar bedroom thinking the existing ones weren't such. I then showed him in the toolstation catalogue options for them - to come across one new fitting which doesn't...
Hi all,

I'm a bit confused about using the bit of white heat resistant flex for downlights. Do we really need it on fire rated downlights? Isn't it just an extra unnessasary connection?
Why not take the 1.5 standard T&E straight from the Hager (or similar) junction box to light? I'm still trying...
Hi all,
From January 2019 when we are doing an EICR, how would you tackle trunking which has no fire rated clips in it which is in an area where there could be an issue regarding the cables falling in the event of a fire?
Would you advise to retrofit the clips in the trunking? Or state that...
