my friend has in his bathroom 12v halogen ceiling lamps. They got springs which hold fixture in place. I have no idea how to lift them up and dismount fixture without damaging ceiling.

My landing-light bayonet's plastic housing has melted. Naturally it needs replacing but I would like to know what may have caused it and what should be done, please? ie Too much voltage etc?
