Hi,
I do basic electrical DIY like changing light fittings and have got a light to put up that only has a fly earth and no flex earth (see pic).
I’ll be buying a junction box but just wondering why I’ve no flex earth?
Do I just use the fly in the junction box alone?
TIA
Am fitting a new pir led floodlight . The exsisting light is connected to 4 core round flexible cable, core colours green/yellow, blue, brown and black .
Should i use the green/yellow , blue and brown and just terminate the black
Many thanks
I have a spare 2.5mm 3 core flex cable.
Can I use it for an outdoor light?
It will be connected a junction box that's already supplying electricity to a different light. It has a 1.5 twin and E coming into it. (It's the smaller wire , so I think it's a 1.5)
Many thanks.
I have some PECSO HO7RN-F 3G1.5 Flex cable that i want to use to wire up some outside LED security lights that are 240v. The cable will be clipped to a wall 8ft up so little chance of it getting damaged etc.
The data sheet gives a voltage rating of 450v/750v yet i am wanting to use it for 240V...
Is there such thing as a 2 Gang flex outlet plate, changing an existing heating system to a nest so no need for the programmer however it is by the boiler in the kitchen, they’ve cut in a 2 gang back box then screws through it anyway m, will need to use the flex to the boiler however the kitchen...
1 out of 3 electricians told that 0.75 has to be replaced : Short 0.75mm flex cable used as fixed for one led light, 1 90 bend, 1 m long. Sorry reposting in DIY section, because I’m being moderated in pro section. Only posting there because I don’t get many replies in here. Regular CU with 2...
Hello to all.
I know now that 1mm T&E would be better for lights, but legally is 0.75mm Flex in conduit behind tiles and tile backer sufficient for led lights (6w) or Extractor Fan (4w)?
1 out of 3 quoting electricians said that those need to be replaced. Is it really that bad? Looking at the...
I have a double oven connection unit. Fed with 4mm cable,40 amp MCB. Hob connected to it with 4mm cable. Bought new oven, stated 16 amp but with 1.5 flex from the oven. (manufacturer) I'm trying to argue that this needs a fused spur before connecting to double oven connection unit as 40 amp MCB...
I've noticed lots of USA youtube videos seem to show long flexible auger bits.
Has anyone in the UK got one, is it any good, and where did you get it?!
The only similar thing I know of is the Super-Rods one.
Thanks!
Hi all,
Got an antique light fitting that for some reason she wants putting up (can't say I love it haha) however it didn't come with any electrical fittings, so I'm trying to create a compliant solution. We want to use a brass lampholder with gold flex just going straight down from the brass...

Hello, I've worked on a few old lewden boards recently and the quality is terrible. When fitting rcbos in 16th edition boards there's a solid bar that gets in the way of the taller device and they go in wonky enough as is. I was considering swapping it for a 100A flexible link, are any of you...
Hi,
The house I've moved in to doesn't have an extractor in the main bathroom so I'm looking at placing an inline extractor in the attic directly above it. Problem is...I'm using smart lights that need to be powered on all the time therefore don't want to use the existing pull cord to control...
Hi all,
I'd like to replace some MR16 halogen fittings on an exposed wooden beam to new GU10 fittings which I will be fitting led lamps into. The current fittings are wired in 2 core flex as they're only 12v, can't see a problem with that.
For the new lights I'm planning on using black 3 core...
At work in our main kitchen, the 6kW (26A sp) water packed up. The restaurant staff were in turmoil, as they had no hot water to make the tea. Luckily we had a new spare one lying around.
The old one was fed by a 32A supply, 4mm 6242B (LSOH) cable 32A RCBO. From the rotary isolator, the...
Hello,
I have an idea which I want installing in to an outbuilding and I wonder if it's possible.
I need to plug a light (3 pin plug) in to a socket. The light wire to be within the wall. Can I use a 2 gang grid, with a single socket, blank and a flex outlet module? This light wire to enter...
Hi all, got a new range cooker I’m connecting which comes with a 10mm flex connected. The outside diameter I nearly 20mm and won’t fit into the existing cooker outlet plate. Does anyone know of a supplier which allows for larger diameter cables?
Failing that I’ll have to connect into an...
I have a cable twin + earth coming from wall switch with 3 amp fuse - I want to connect it to some LED lights with a flex connector. LEDs have no earth, so what do I do with the earth wire coming from switch to flex connector?
Thanks
How do you guys terminate these when using flex?
I'm talking these things found in light fittings: https://www.saxbylighting.com/images/default-source/feature-pages/Downlight-booklet/terminal-block_2-columna61727463c42674eaa46ff0000f3e563.jpg?sfvrsn=0
I twist the strands together and then try...
