Hi all, got a new range cooker I’m connecting which comes with a 10mm flex connected. The outside diameter I nearly 20mm and won’t fit into the existing cooker outlet plate. Does anyone know of a supplier which allows for larger diameter cables? Failing that I’ll have to connect into an...

Flex and push-fit connectors (mostly in lights)

How do you guys terminate these when using flex? I'm talking these things found in light fittings: https://www.saxbylighting.com/images/default-source/feature-pages/Downlight-booklet/terminal-block_2-columna61727463c42674eaa46ff0000f3e563.jpg?sfvrsn=0 I twist the strands together and then try...

Would this be original? Cooker flex

Disconnected a cooker ready for a kitchen to be removed, and found this. Freestanding cooker with 4 rings, oven and grill.. rated 11.3kW, supplied by what looks like 1.5mm flex. I know take diversity for cooking appliances, but 1.5 is pushing it a bit. Just wondered if this was original to the...

    Outside light wired in flex

Outside light wired in 0.5mm flex but protected by a 3amp fuse. A 0.5mm flex max is 3A current carrying capacity, would you give that a code for an EICR? Cable size is small but it’s protected by the fuse, was thinking maybe a C3 due to it being a flex outside

    Adding a double socket

Hi all. I want to add a double socket, the closest one is on opposite wall. So instead of using 2.5 T&E and then pvc trunking, can I use 2.5mm white flex? Only asking as flex would look a little neater clipped around the bottom of the skirting. Weren't sure what if coming from.one socket...

Is it compulsory to use the flex outlet on a fused spur?

Hi all, BS1363 Switch fused spur with flex outlet has been installed. But the installer hasn't used the flex outlet, they've used singles in conduit and the cable grips are still in place on the spur. However the client has challenged this, implying it should be changed out to a standard spur...

3183Y Pond Flex frustrations. The "proper" way to strip this material

Good evening folk, Recently took a role that involves using a lot of 2.5 mm 3183Y "pond flex". Is there an easy way to strip the outer sheath without risk of nicking the inner core insulation? Slicing and tugging might have been OK for the occasional garden light install but something faster...

    Flex outside

Hi all, have a job doing some garden lights. Want to use flexible conduit as I can fix to a wall that is then being battened out so no need for armoured. I would normally use black .75 pond flex for this sort of job but can only find it in 3 core and need 4 cores. Whats the opinion of using...

When installing multiple downlights, I always use T&E but I’ve seen a few cases where flex is used. Does it matter? Is there a reg or best practice on this? Just interested in peoples input

    What's this flex made of?

It obviously been there quite a long time, and someone has chopped it off and just left it hanging. Does anyone recognise the type of cable and have any idea what it the sheath material might be? I've got this horrible feeling the answer is going to open a can of worms, but I'd like to see what...
